Title: Quick urgent Question
Post by: rinajack on January 04, 2008, 07:43:03 am
Is there milk in batter - like the batter they use to coat fish before deep frying it?

I don't think so.  Usually it's flour and spices.

If it's store bought maybe there's whey though?

It was from a takeaway shop, so I couldn't check ingredients.  I didn't eat it ::)

Oh well, better for my hips anyway ;D

I am pretty sure it would have had milk in it. I will have a quick look to see if I can find out if it usually does for the future.

It would be worth asking in future as it seems that lots of people use just water instead of milk. I found more recipes that just used water than ones that used milk.

I did ask the store, but they don't make the batter, they buy the fish pre battered :P

I am used to the fish and chip shop that is local, they make their own batter. I have not asked what is in their batter though as James is allergic to fish and wheat so would not matter if it contains milk or not for him.
