Now abbi is one, we have been given the go ahead for the dairy challenge, so far 4 tsps of yoghurt have produced no reaction ;D ;D ;D ;D Cant get hold of the dietican ::) and cant remember what she said, she said something like, after she can tolerate a full yoghurt, move on to cheese
What cheese would be best to try first, any idea anyone?
I am so glad its going smoothly so far! ;D
-
It is best to try a hard cheese first. Cheddar is a popular choice usually.
Kelly
-
emma thats great ;D,i would use the hard ,mild tasting cheese first.
-
thanks guys ;D ;D ;D am pretty chuffed, will start cheddar on friday, tomorrow is 6 tsps of yoghurt, 5 today has provoked no reaction ;D
-
Thats really good news. I hope you carry on to get good results.
Kelly
-
Totally agree on the hard, mild cheeses. Good luck and keep us posted!
-
Ooo, good luck :)
I was going to say a cheddar as well - as you know, ds is milk intolerant, but he can manage cheddar cheese really well, so he gets lots of it for the calcium. We've recently discovered he's OK on Parmesan too :D
-
Yay Caroline!!!!!!! It must be so nice to give at least something dairy eh!
I am so positive this is the start of being able to give her a more varied diet :D

Certainly is, and it means that he can have things in restaurants that we'd normally have to steer clear of. Like today we went to Pizza Hut for lunch ( :-[ :-[ OK maybe not a great example :P)
I am so positive this is the start of being able to give her a more varied diet :D
I hope so :)
Did you try the rice milk?
-
Yep, the rice milk made my fairy cakes much tastier, she likes it as a lunchtime drink too. My dietician warned me that whole milk will prob be the one thing that poses the most problems.
And dont be :-[ :-[ at Pizza hut, I am jealous, I need to get us all there on pay day now ;D
-
funny you should mention parmezan because my MIL says that here in Italy in her region of Emilia Romagna they used to give babies parmezan as their first food when weaning at 4 months!!! those were the days eh???!!!!! :o
-
Oh, I'm glad that went well, it makes things so much easier. And that's true about the whole milk, it does awful things to ds's tummy :-X (I'm not too great on it myself)
OK, now we're talking about Pizza Hut, I've got that stupid song in my head. Hee hee, it's nice to share, enjoy ;)
A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut :P................................

wow! is it not too salty?
-
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooo that song will NEVER leave my head! ;D ;D
-
Mwahahahahahahahah!! ;D ;D

Umm sounds tasty!
Am pleased Emma that Abbi's doing well, is she feeling better? Just out of interest - is it plain yog or fromage frais??
Hema x
-
Hi Hema, yes she is so much better, finished the anti bios today, chest xray in couple of weeks I think, but touch wood, I think she is fine!
It was fromage frais I gave her, muller little stars, it was great, i got to finish the rest :P
-
Sounds yummy... we were doing fromage frais in November but stopped after Ethan had that nasty vomitting virus. Going to try and see the GP again and see what he thinks! I hope the chest x-ray's okay, i'm sure it will be - especially as she's so well in her self. I hope 2008's going well :-* so far!

Emma that is brill news - and you ve got to let us know how you get on!!
My sil has friends in Italy and parrently some people still start off weaning at 4 months with parmesan in the diet :o :o
-
hows it going emma?is abbi still going alright with the f/f?
-
Thanks for asking, yes she is doing fine with the ff, so today am trying cheese :D
-
hope it goes well :)
-
I was just going to start a thread about this LOL. We decided to try Lucas on yogurt again, and 2 days in seems OK, poop slightly runnier than normal, but only a bit and no sign of any pain. So, how long should I keep him just yogurt before trying cheese?
-
Hi Mella. good to see u again!
Dietician said to work up teaspoon by teaspoon and record the reactions seen (if any). And then once a whole yoghurt is tolerated, then to move to cheese!
We used cheese today, she wasnt really keen on the taste tbh :-\
-
our dietician never said anything to us so w just gave him a full one ::) we couldn't have taken it off him, he loved it too much :P I think i'll keep him on it a few more days to make sure then try cheese.
-
Yep, def leave it a few days I agree. Great dietician huh ::) I know what u mean about it, abbi SCREAMED when we kept taking it off her....
-
So we had a full yoghurt today.... and no reaction again.
Dietitician wants me to try cheese but again, she didnt like it today, spat it out..... so what would be the next step? Milk in jarred foods (she still has some of these), hidden milk in diff things such as biscuit (toddler ones)? When would whole milk start?
Sorry for all the Q's. cant get hold of dietician again. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with the next step? :-*
-
It is great that the yogurt is still going really well. If she does not like the cheese then you could try adding a little milk into some soup or something like that. You could also try jarred food or biscuits as you mentioned. I know some people that have gone straight to whole milk at this point but took it very slow. Only offered a very small amount at first and then built the amount up every other day. I hope it goes well with whatever you decide to try. It is a real pain when you can't get hold of dieticians when you really want there advice. Mind you James's was not very good anyway but yours sounds great.

Sounds good Emma 8)
I think it could take her a while to get her used to cheese as its probably quite salty after what shes been used to :)
But hey its so great to hear that shes tolerating it :-*
What are you gonna do next?
is she still drinking the neocate flavoured stuff?
-
Thanks Kelly, I will maybe give her an oz of whole milk and see how that goes :) Might try other cheeses too, as the one I tried her with was cheddar, maybe a little strong.
Vivki - yup, still blackcurrant Neocate, she loves it still ;D
-
bless her :-*
well thats all good then isn't it :D
A doc (not our normal GP) told us to keep Cerys on the LF milk till shes a year old as giving her a trial normal formula bottle could throw her digestive system into turmoil again... ::) why is it one doctor says one thing while one says something completely different? >:(
-
oh dear, had to stop the yogurt. Lucas was up screaming with bellyache all night and had the runs this morning.
-
oh dear :(
bless him :'( :-* :-*
-
Awwwww I am sorry it didnt work out :(
-
Hows Abbi getting on Emma?
-
Sounds like all is going well Emma, i'm so pleased for you!
-
Very well, had 2 things with mil products in, 1 was a jar and 1 was a fruity custard thing, no problems at all so far, I am so so so so pleased
-
Thanks Hemz, btw love the avatar (dont know if I said before) GORGEOUS!
-
great news :)
-
Forgot to mention, Jack threw his milk into her cot this morn, I went toilet and dh went back in as they drink morning milk in their cots while we get dressed, and Abbi was slurping away at Jacks whole milk...... now she has a rash all over her head, is this normal? I am sure she got a good few ozs.... :'(
-
Emma what does the rash look like? Is it possible it could be from something else? If it is the milk that has caused it then it might just be that Abbi can't take whole milk as a drink but is ok with it in yogurt and ingredients in biscuits etc. I hope Abbi is doing ok now.
Kelly
-
Like blotches? cant think of anything else it could have been :-\
-
It does sound like a possible reaction to the milk. How are things now? Is the rash gone? Is Abbi still ok with the yogurt?
Kelly
-
maybe its a touch reaction, india is like that with soy.
-
emma just wanted to sya this is exactly whAt i hd withT. We got to youghrt, cheese etc but only at 18 could he drink milk, its the amount of lactose as much as anything, in a youghurt its much less and its pasturized, in whole milk a bottle full, its a lot
-
Hi Emma.... My Avatar's definatly a cheesy family picture... i do think it's cute though :o
Sorry Abbi got blotches, it definatly sounds like an allergy but did she get any diarrhoea, vomitting or stomach cramps with it?? It may well be okay but just got to take it slow for now. Ethan get's those blotches too but then he vomits his milk. Dr seem to think the blotching was okay-ish but take it slow.
Just today my nephew gave Ethan a milky bar button today... he ate it but then had big blotches all over his face and kept rubbing his face and pulling his ears :( He's not ready yet, as he can't tolerate yogurt yet.
Hope Abbi's okay, and well if not... just try again in a few months! Big hugs to you all!
-
But lactose intolerance shouldn't cause blotches - that would cause stomach upset but shouldn't lead to a skin reaction. The blotches could mean that whole milk is just too much for her yet or it could be a skin reaction. My DD breaks out sometimes if egg or too many oils or vinegar touches her skin but she can eat them without other adverse reactions. So it's hard to say!
-
Well, the mystery is solved, she woke up with a puffy face, breathing funny, rushed her to the docs and looks like she is getting croup! How unlucky are we with her lol! The rash was viral, the puffiness was due to her having a temp. She didnt get the runs from the milk, so thats good, and she has had some mini cheddars today which she did like despite being cheese flavoured, shes a picky sausage eh!
-
Sorry to hear about the croup! Hopefully she feels better soon and at least she can continue on with dairy!
-
I am so sorry to hear that Abbi has croup. I wish her a speedy recovery. The good thing is it looks like the dairy is still ok.

oh sweet Abbi... she's going to have the best immune system by next winter! Hope she feels better soon, big hugs to you Emma... it'll be okay :-*
