Title: Need help with lactose intolerance - what solids NOT to give
Post by: *Vicki* on March 27, 2008, 10:20:59 am
Am at a loss with my 10 month old as to what i can give her to eat...it all seems to be meat and veg or fruit at the mo.....she has Lactose intolerance and GP has said to keep her off normal formula milk/cows milk for at least another 3/4 months to give her a chance to 'grow out of it' if shes going to...trouble is we've since established that i probably suffer from it too  :(

Every annabel karmel recipe i have (more or less anyway) seems to have milk or cheese in it....can i use LF formula milk in place of milk in cooking or can i buy an adult lactose free milk to use? Can she have bread (doesnt this hav milk in it?) im confused and apart from the obvious one - milk - am at a loss as to what i can give her.....

If this should be in the solids board please feel free to move it there.....

Any help would be gratefully recieved... :)

thank you  :-*

has anyone tried that lactofree semi skimmed milk i was wondering...its normal milk for us adults..i was just thinking that as regular cows milk can be used in cooking for babies who dont suffer intolerances/allergies then maybe lactofree could be used in cooking for babies suffering lactose intolerance....?? any ideas??

I would imagine you could use the lactofree milk in cooking for your lo but I think I would stick to the LF formula. You can get bread that does not contain milk, it is farely easy. The thing you have to watch for usually is that it is not produced on shared lines as it could be a cross contamination risk. If your lo is ok with soya then you could try cooking with soy cheese in the recipes. To be honest at 10 months solids are still mainly for practise anyway so I would not worry too much about variety. There are lots of things you could do though. Homemade soups were always a favourite with my ds before he developed hios food aversion.  I think potato, spinach and leek was his favourite. I used sweet potato aswell as white potato and it was really nice. You can get lots of goodness into soups and are easy to make.

you could make it nice and thick by adding some to mashed potato maybe. Pasta with different sauces is good as they can even eat that with hands if you don't mind the mess. It also depends how good she is with finger food. I will try and come up with more ideas.
