Title: Marking My Place??

Okay, I've been on here for a few years, and I keep seeing these posts, "Hi, I'm just marking my place".  Usually I see this on new threads, but I don't understand what it means and what it is for??

People tend to do it when they see a thread they want to keep track of so they can find it easily on their "new replies to your posts" page.

Does that make sense?!
