Title: Hemp milk
Post by: 1sttimemamma on April 17, 2009, 02:08:03 am
Just learned that DS is "highly reactive" to cows milk - he's 20 months. We are now doing hemp milk because it was more fat and protein than rice milk. Anybody else do hemp milk? Just curious??

Have heard of it, but haven't tired it.   How does it taste?

Good link deb! I live in POrtland, OR so that is why I can easily get it.

Peek-a-boo ...it tastes ok - I guess nuttier would be a way to describe it. We make him smoothies because he doesn't drink it plain.

Not heard of hemp milk, but I have oat milk for the same reason (can't have soy either). It's nice, great on cereal and fine in tea!

We use Hemp and Rice milk at our house.  Not sure if this is the case with all Hemp Milk, but ours is not high in calcium (we use the Manitoba Harvest brand and it only has 2% of the RDI of calcium).  It was my understanding that Hemp Milk is high in iron and therefore even if you buy a brand fortified with calcium the body wouldn't absorb it so well.  But as a fat and protien source it is great.
