Title: Salmon???
Post by: shinysarah on June 02, 2009, 12:24:37 pm
Is it normal for our los to be allergic to fish? I gave my lo fish (salmon) for the 1st time this week and he went blotchy, blotchy, blotchy!!!
He is 8m by the way.

Fish is quite a common allergen. It is in the top 8 allergens. I would get advice from a health professional before giving fish again. It does sound like your lo was reacting to the salmon.

Thank you Kelly!!  That can be added to the list...wheat or gluten, eczema and now fish!

My son has eczema, asthma and multiple food allergies. I hope your lo's list does not keep growing.

Can I ask kelly, do you keep trying him with the food he's allergic too every so often as HV has recommended this??

very common allergen, I am allergic to fish, and I come out in blotches all over my stomach arms and legs if I eat it, I was told to avoid it as each time the reaction could worsen until becoming anaphalatic shock eventually :(

Not sure if this applies to los too though  :-\ I would ask your doctor :) x

James has many food allergies and some reactions are worse than others. James reacts to certain fruits which I do try him with from time to time as the main reaction from them is a flare in his eczema and a few hives. We have not tried fish again as his reaction was hives, mucousy liquid bowel movements and slightly puffy face. There are also other foods that James is allergic to that cause similar reactions that we also don't challenge. James has just had his rast tests repeated o we will see what the results are and the onsultant will decide from there if we are to start challenging some of these foods.

To be honest I don't think I would be in a hurry at this stage to try the foods again as you dont want your lo to build a negative asociation with food. That is just my advice though and to be honest James' health visitor is not very good when it comes to allergies and eczema.
