Title: Wind...lots during the night is it normal?
Post by: jacsmummy on September 29, 2009, 13:27:19 pm
Hi there, I'm not sure if I have put this in the right place, but I'm wondering if it's normal for my LO to still be experiencing bad wind that wakes him up in pain?  :-[
He's 11months old, has three meals a day & 3 bottles a per day. He has regular bm's and is generally a very happy, spirited little fella.... ;D   It's just that he wakes frequently with bad tummy ache & after a bit of massage & crying he usually passes it?  ???
I have been giving him gripe water before his bedtime bottle...but am unsure if it is helping?  ???
I always wind him before I put him down, and will usually burp, but sometimes not? I have also tried holding him upright for a bit as he likes to have a cuddle but he still is getting it quite bad?

Hi there!  I was just wondering if he's always been gassy or is it something new?  Does he wake up in pain during naps as well?

hiya. he's always been windy and will often wake from naps needing a burp..but his daytime napping is much better than it used to be & when he's at the childminder's 3days a week he sleeps in his pushchair?  :-\

It might be worth reading your gripe water bottle. When I actually read the package insert with baby no 2, I was horrified to read that it can actually cause wind. Are you giving gripe water at naps or just bedtime?

god that's insane? I only give it to him at night????? ???  I will try it without for sure! He loves bread & I'm not sure if that has an effect on the gas? He usually has toast in the am, but if I can't get him to eat at other meals it's always something I offer to him & he always will eat it?
 :P

Has he started drinking better from a sippy lately by any chance?  When DS hit about 12ish months and started getting the hang of chugging water from his cup, he would happily dance around the house throwing back his cup and chugging water out of it repeatedly - like, gulp, pause, gulp, pause, iykiwm.   Suddenly he was burping like a king -- and waking up needing to be winded as well.  Was swallowing lots of air in his drinkathons.

Just a random thought  ;)

Hi Mashi...(lovin the naughty stories by the way) Yes he absolutely loves his sippy cup...sometimes I look & think "did you drink ALL of that?" I know a lot of it goes on the floor, but I know exactly what you mean by taking in air at the same time? Funnily enough since I posted this thread he has had a couple of nights with much less wind...? I can't for the life of me think what could be different?  Apart from he's had two days of big dirty nappies (like 3 or 4 per day)...perhaps he was backed up a bit? :-\
thanks for the input. ;D

Possible, could have just been something he ate?

maybe? he has always been a windy man but it does seem to be worse sometimes than others?  ???

I shall keep an eye on exactly what he has each day & the result?

Thank you. ;D
