Title: Brio and Ikea train set
Post by: ~Emma~ on December 14, 2010, 19:51:32 pm
Are they compatible?  ???

We have a couple of sets of Brio for DS and he really loves it but it is proving expensive. I was in Ikea today and noticed that they do very similar sets. Would be great of we could mix and match.

Yep! They do fit together, sometimes you will get a piece that is a bit tight to fit together or take apart, but they are compatible!   There is another brand here called Eichhorn that is also compatible and much cheaper, as is Imagination something (?) which may possibly be a Toys R Us brand?

Thomas track, Brio, Ikea & Imaginariam (Toys R Us brand) are all compatible... just sold off/gave away) about 2/3 of our track which included all 4 types!

Imaginarium, that's the one!   Though here the Thomas track available is not compatible with the other wooden ones.

Thanks folks. DS has gone a bit choo-choo mad these days and I dont think our income can keep up with the cost of Brio.  :)

DS1 got a set from tesco last year which fits with his brio stuff. It was a secret santa pressie so must have been less than £10 and there was loads of track and trains too.

Yes, I know, it's bloody expensive!  We have picked up a few pieces when we have caught them on sale, and MIL has sent little pieces as well.  Keep your eye on ebay every now and again (though not Christmas as everyone is looking for sets iykwim?) and you can get the pieces for cheap, tuck them aside for birthdays etc

Yep DH has been doing that and getting a little obsessed himself!  ::) He got the safari set for his birthday just passed and we have got him one of the motorised trains for his stocking that was a steal from Ebay.

I must admit that its nice to see him play with something non-plastic kwim?

The biggest "hit" here is the bell which is the cheapest brio item - I think it was 8 euros here so probably 5 quid?  Just in case you are looking for another small piece!

The wooden THomas trains fit on those tracks but the metal trains don't :(  We have the wooden tracks (gift/second-hand) and the metal trains!
