Title: Can raw fruit cause diarrhea in a 7,5 month old?
Post by: Apsof2010 on January 18, 2011, 16:48:11 pm
Hi

My DD is 7,5 months old and is on nutramigen for milk protein intolerance.

In e last few days she's been having diarrhea (musousy sorry tmi) a few times a day! Poor little thing. Haven't given her any dairy and the only thing I can think of is that I stopped cooking her fruit. It's still the same fruit she used to eat before, but I'm trying to give it to her raw pieces as finger food.

What's your experience of giving raw fruit at this age? I wonder if her tummy is more sensitive due to MPI...

What kind of fruit is it?  No other new foods?  hmmm...I am trying to remember when we gave raw fruit (bananas I suppose, but that's not really the same as say, an apple or pear) I find even now that grapes/raisins/berries give both my kids diarrhea if they eat more than a small amount at once.

I've given pear, peach and mango raw. She hates bananas :)

I wonder if by cooking them they are easier to digest? If it were me I would experiment by using cooked for awhile and then trying uncooked to see if you get the same results, but maybe only one fruit at a time, it could be just one affecting her that way.

Thank you for your response Masyandspencer

I have stopped giving any raw fruit, but DD's nappies are still so bad! They go from bright yellow to dark green in colour :) and so many times it wakes her up at night sometimes :( called paed he said possible virus and to wait it out. I'm still worried though, it's been about 10 days already and poor little bottom is so sore :(( sorry for moaning

if she already has intolerances it likey she could have additional intolerances.  Peach and mango are high in salicylates - a naturally occurring food chemical. If kids are sensitive to them it is the normal food intolerance symptoms  like mucus poo, frequent poo, tummy upset etc including nappy rash and red bottom.  It sort of burns their insides if they have a build up of the chemical and the body is not detoxifying and metabolising the chemical effectively.

My LO is intolerant to dairy/soy and salicylates as well as preservatives and additives.  Not too sure about wheat at the moment but excluding it for now.

Is she has a problem with salicylates you should find problems after she has stone fruits, citrus, avocado, dried fruit, teething gel, olive oil, nuts, and most berries.
