Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 8
Post by: Buntybear on February 23, 2011, 17:03:43 pm
Well tbh it is really just chicken pasta and mango drizzled in Olive oil! I guess I could put red pepper and cucumber strips if I had any to make it more salady!

Just been done the shops and bought fillet steak for olly tonight! He will have it in strips with sweet pot wedges and veg

Don't be too impressed - he didn't eat it! I bought fillet as I thought it would be soft enough for him to eat but clearly it wasn't. Chalk that up to experience  ::)

Yep it was only ok though. Thought it would nice and soft but wasn't. That def sounds like teeth. I find with olly he won't eat even if mashed up too.

Lots of ideas for my picky little man (16 months):

B: mini weetabix, shreddies, strawbs and blueberrys (dry)
S: Yoghurt and breadstick
L: Sausage (half), cucumber slices, bite of omlette (wouldn't touch anything else :-(
D: planning on meatballs, macaroni pasts (cooked but dry) and cheese cubes
Supper: hopfeully readybrek (after a suprise success last night)

Everything has to be finger food for him, always running out of ideas.

B: 1 pancake, yogurt, blueberries and strawberries
S: Cheerios & raisins
L: 1/4 large tortilla, 1/2 clementine, cabbage roll stirfry

Lilly- I used to mix all kinds of stuff into mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potatoes and mix in an egg and spices and then bake them in the oven into 'pancakes' (350 F for about 20-30 minutes or until set.  I used parchment paper to prevent sticking and froze extras.)  DS loved them and I could use up leftovers and veggies and all kinds of stuff and they were really easy for him to pick up and eat...

What a great idea Whatbit - altho I'd need a non egg binding ingredient.....??

We are still have rubbish feeding, day 9 of it now with occasional good day.  And now we have a fever after a day of poor eating and refluxing....sigh!
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 8

hi, chiming in.....we have rubbish eating for the last few days, and could do with someone telling me this is enough for a 2.5yo to live off.....or if i need to set up a night drip for him!

yesterday:
B- 1/2 slice toast with olive spread and jam, cranberries (dried)
S- 2 digestive biscuits
L- 1/2 piece bread with ham and ketchup, 10 hula hoops 1 fruit stick snack
S- banana in supermarket trolley
D- boiled egg (ate 1/2) and muffin strips (did not want), jelly

OK so on paper it doesnt look so bad, but it feels like he is just snacking his way through the day. Asking for puddings/treats/snacks all day and not actually eating proper food. Last proper dinner was sunday night when he ate 1/2 a kids portion of roast dinner (ate 1 slice roast parsnip, 5 cubes roast chicken, few bites of broccoli, and 1/2 a potato.)

Dont think it helps that he has a cough and snotbag nose, and last 2 molars are teething too. Maybe i should go easier on the little guy.....

Wow lilli, sounds like your lo has a lot to contend with right now with molars and cold. My lo is only 16mo so not sure what to say about a 2.5 yr old but my sid in law has child same age as yours and she eats very little at each meal sitting and asks for snacks thru the day. My sis in law has given ip forcing the issue and just goes with flow and her lo is in good health and growing and very active etc......

I'm going to try to contribute to this board every once in a while.  Lili - not sure what 'normal' should be, but it does seem like your LO isn't eating very much?  I've always considered DD to be a light eater (and picky too), but here is what she ate today (amounts are.. of course, approximate):

B: 1-2 oz rice/oatmeal cereal, 1/2 clementine orange, 3 mini wheats, 1/4 pancake w/honey
L1 (before nap): 4 bites rice/oat cereal, nibbled at carrot, 1/4 banana, 1 bite cheese stick, refused broccoli, cucumber, strawberries
L2 (after nap): 1/2 pancake w/PB&J, 2 oz strawberries, 1 oz kiwi, refused green beans
D: 1 oz green beans, 1 oz broccoli, 5 oz pasta w/parm cheese, 3 oz strawberry yogurt, spinach (raw)

It LOOKS like DD eats a lot.. but in reality she just pecks around and doesn't eat a lot of anything.  ::)

i know he doesnt eat much! he's on the 8th centile, has followed this from birth so not too worried really.

yesterday was better he had

B: half a teacake with olive spread
S: 1 biscuit and juice
L: 1/4 adult size chicken and bacon club sanwich and about 15 grapes
S: 2 mini gingerbread men (sugar free)
D: 2 vegetable fingers and peas with ketchup (offered dessert, and he said he was full!)
10oz milk through the day.

TBH its the milk i'm trying to cut. In the mornings he has a little beaker of soy milk (been on since 7 months for MPI, now down to 4oz). Not interested in juice or anything else other than "his" milk

In the evenings, he likes a beaker before bed, have dropped this down to 6oz. trying to get it even lower down to 4. But obviously I am aware that with the lack of dairy in his diet, that other sources of calcium etc are sparce.

Lili-
Quick questions... b/c I'm curious - what is a teacake and what are vegetable fingers? :)

Also.. as far as the milk goes, my doctor wants Nora to get 12-16 oz per day (that was his recommendation at 1 yr and 15 mo) - that is JUST MILK not including cheese, yogurt, etc.  So... IMO, 10 oz doesn't seem excessive.. especially for a kid that doesn't eat much to begin with?

Finally... 8th% isn't bad as long as he's still growing (following his 'own' curve).  :D  Good luck!

teacake is like a fruity bread roll. Also called hot cross buns round easter. Veg fingers are pre made pop in the toaster type breadcrumbed mixed veg shapes. They have about six veggies in but all  chopped up. Look like fish fingers or mozzerella sticks

Veggie fingers sound interesting... I wonder if there's an American equivalent? :)

Here was today's eating (teething molars pretty bad, using consistent meds to keep her from screaming):

B: shredded wheat, 1/4 orange (refused rice/oat cereal and strawberries)
L: 1/2 PB&J, 6 pieces of kiwi, 4 pieces mango, 1 bite grilled cheese
S: rice chex, couple bites of banana, 2 bites pretzel
D: apple/chix puree (4 oz), oatmeal/rice cereal (2 oz), bites of kiwi - refused broccoli, yogurt, cheesy pasta, fruit

Typically dinner is our big meal of the day.. and she just wasn't interested?  Probably had too many rice chex! ::)

Hi everyone, DS turned 1 last Thursday so I can "officially" follow along on this board if you don't mind! At the moment, he is being very particular about what he will eat (teething molars).  Going to try out some new things today and will post anything interesting we have success with.

My LO goes to school during the day, so here's what she had for dinner:

Macaroni and cheese, half a navel orange, green beans, frosted shortbread cookie

A quick story: In the past 7 months, I've picked up frosted cookies from Panera Bread as a treat for Chandler three times. The first time was in October, and it was a pumpkin shape, the next time was Valentine's day, so it was pink. Yesterday was the third time, and it was a yellow easter egg shape. Chandler took one bite into the easter egg cookie, and exclaimed, "Just like pumpkin cookie! Just like pink cookie! Mmmmmm!" I was shocked. I can't believe my child can remember--in the parade of cookies she has eaten since October--the other two cookies she has ever eaten that taste the same as this cookie! It's not like we were at the bakery or there was any other association with the treat. It was purely the taste.

I am back on here after a while as DS is losing weight and just seems to want to eat all day so am looking for comparisons/ideas. I am pg at very lazy so really want some easy meals too.
Today

S: crunchy nut cornflakes and 1/2 a tracker bar
L: pitta and humous, satsuma

D: shepherds pie with peas and carrots, strawberries, then chicken balls and noodles from our takeaway. Diluted OJ.

I realise now I have written it down what a bitty day  it has been. I hope it will be better tomorrow.

Snack: goldfish and milk
Dinner: refused meatballs, some spinach pancake and some squash, yogurt, some of a rice crispy treat (out)

Post by: Sam-n-Max's Mommy on April 16, 2011, 11:11:30 am
Brennasmommy - how do you make a spinach pancake? Do you add spinach puree or are there bits of spinach in it? It sounds good! This could be a good way for me to get some greens into DS since he seems to only favor orange veggies at this point (we are in VERY picky period).

Yesterday DS ate (in addition to 16 oz of formula):
Breakfast - strawberry, pear, and cereal puree, some scrambled eggs
Snack - 3 oz veggie/fruit juice
Lunch - container of yogurt mixed with peach and squash puree, bits of meatloaf
Snack - milk and puffs
Dinner - pureed mac and cheese (with carrots and broccoli), 1 1/2 chicken nuggets, a few more bits of meatloaf

Most of our days look like this because he is teething and seems to only be sticking to favorites at this point.

Samsmommy the spinach pancake is made by dr. preggors and you can usually find them in the frozen foods section of your grocery store.  They are all natural and the make a broccoli one that dd loves also.

WE have made spinach pancakes with puree before. I can imagine K not liking whole bits in there.

Today for us.
B: 1 slice jam on toast, few bites of apple
S: few more wotsits (from the same bag as yesterday), 1/2 a hot cross bun with butter, 1/2 a small banana
L: few bites of each - pitta, humous, tomato, turkey breast, 1/3 of a donut (which he has started calling "deedees" because I was trying to spell the word so he wouldn't know what I was talking about!)
S: banana museli with cow's milk
D: beef and mushroom sagg masala with carrots, rice, bombay potatoes (only a few mouthfuls potatoes as I made them too spicy)
S: 3/4 crumpet with marmite

He'll eat anything at nursery!  He once went off toast and yet he was still eating two - three slices a day at nursery.

So far today weetabix, toast with unsalted butter and a peach for breakfast.  Most of the weetabix went all over his tray, his legs and the floor.  I'm thinking a pate sandwich for lunch with some watermelon and pannacotta.

Breakfast: Bowl of coco poops and a wheatabix with milk
S: 1/2 bag Crisps and 1/2 a banana and avocado pancake with honey
Lunch: 2.5 slices Bread and Marmite
S: (at my sister's) chocolate mousse
Dinner: Saag masala (with chicken, feta cheese, mushrooms and carrots in) and rice
S: hot chocolate (very weak)

I was reading that at 2yo they can start having more wholemeal stuff and less fat so have switched to 50/50 bread (made with 1/2 wholemeal, 1/2 white flour) and semi-skimmed milk. K is getting quite chunky and whilst there is more rubbish in his diet than is ideal I hope this will also help.

I find it hard that I spend alot of time with my sister and she lets her kids eat lots of things I wouldn't normally let DS eat but feel mean saying no when they are eating it in front of him. I do limit it at home.

Love reading what everyone feeds their LOs. Melissa don't worry too much about how much your DD eats, C was exactly the same and she has really only just got a decent appetite within the last month. Now I can't fill her up, she finishes her meal/snack and says "more" before her mouth is empty!

B - Porridge with banana.
S - Grapes.
L - Cheesy beans on toast, 1 HUGE pear!
S - 2 mini rice cakes with peanut butter, raisins.

The risotto looks good LT. Great tip on making stock in the slow cooker too. I never make my own stock as I don't like the smell or the scum so this would prob be good for me as you say I could just sieve it  :)

Yeah, works a treat.  There is still the smell but I think it smells like Christmas making stock.  Come to think of it at Christmas my slow cooker is going to be working overtime.  I'll probably make stock on the 23rd for the gravy, maybe red cabbage (to reheat later) on the 24th and then I'll reheat my Christmas Pudding in it on Christmas day, all without using a ring on the cooker!  Result!

Just jumping in as I wean DD off of her beloved purees :)  I make just over half of her purees, and use jars when I am being really lazy.

Wake - bottle

Breakfast - oatmeal and half jar of pears, Cheerios

Snack - Cheerios, Gerber puffs, yogurt drops  (she screamed for a snack!)

Snack - cheese, chicken, banana (DH and I were eating lunch and she was starving again!)

Bottle/nap

Lunch - homemade puree of yam/mixed veggies, half of an oat/fruit granola bar

Snack - more Cheerios (this kid must be growing!)

Dinner - scrambled egg with cheese, half jar of apple/plum puree

Bottle/bed

I have no idea what the heck was with her today - she was eating ALL DAY!  She is generally a picky eater who doesn't consume much - must be a GS!

Hi Lemonthyme, Just making some of your savoury muffins for my little man for tomorrow. Really silly question, how should they be stored? Also if I freeze them, when I want to use them do I just defrost them at room temperature? Thanks ever so!
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 8
Post by: Lemonthyme on January 12, 2012, 21:53:45 pm
I just put them in an airtight tin or box, they're fine for a couple of days like that, if I'm keeping them longer, I freeze them.  If you freeze them, either defrost at room temperature for a couple of hours or defrost in the microwave on defrost setting but be careful as they might need to cool down again for a minute or so afterwards.  Hope they're a hit!

B: 1 slice apple/carrot french toast, strawberries, piece of turkey bacon, milk

L: yogurt, one bite of peanut butter and sweet potato sandwich (it sounds weird, but I have to sneak veggies in however I can, won't touch them otherwise)

one bite of peanut butter and sweet potato sandwich (it sounds weird, but I have to sneak veggies in however I can, won't touch them otherwise)

I think we all sneak things into sandwiches ;)  DD had a yogurt/avocado combo today for lunch ;)

Here is our day so far after being ill for a few days with no appetite -

B: 1/4 cup baby cereal, 3 grapes, 2 small cubes of cheddar cheese, water
S: one bite scrambled egg, a few bites of English muffin with fruit spread (baby fruit pouch), a few grapes
L: small sandwich with avocado/yogurt, a few grapes (see a trend with the grapes?!), 8 oz bottle 30 mins later
S: not awake from her nap, but will be small - maybe a fruit bar/cheese
D: will be chicken/veggies/pasta - she will eat like a horse for the most part at this one meal.

And then a bedtime bottle of 8 ozs.

DD will not take milk from her sippy so we still have a couple bottles of formula each day...

S: @ school so probably water and some sort of cracker
L: cup of milk and a peanut butter and jelly sandwitch

B: baby oatmeal and applesauce
S: grapes/cheese

S: seems to be skipping this snack now but will offer crackers/fruit

That's been one of the great things about having a blog, it encourages me to have more variety and try something new.

My general rule is to introduce something new for the first time at lunchtime to then have something safe in the evenings.  Those sleepless nights as a baby still seem alarmingly close.

Yesterday:
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with pureed cauliflower, piece of turkey bacon, strawberries (breakfast is clearly the best meal of the day), some orange juice
Snack: milk, cheerios
Lunch: half of peanut butter and sweet potato sandwich, fruit/veggie juice
Snack: peach, avocado, and zucchini smoothie (a few sips and then threw it!), crackers - I think the problem with the smoothie was the tiny green specks of zucchini skin.  He accepts them in scrambled eggs, but I think was freaked out by them in the smoothie ::)
Dinner: Chicken fingers (WHAT A SURPRISE), bites of potato, blackberries, milk

Kara - I LOVE your idea of avocado and yogurt on a sandwich.  I've always paired it with cream cheese and it is hit or miss. Since he loves yogurt, this should be a winner!!

Not sure I can keep up with this thread, but DS isn't a super eater...and most of what I'll end up typing will be "attempts" rather than what he actually eats. I am also looking for some inspiration. Also, it's really annoying working and not knowing what DH and my mom feed him during the day.

Today was something like:

Bottle: half formula/half whole milk (dairy trial as per GI) 8 oz.
Breakfast: blueberry waffle
Snack: unsure
Bottle: again half and half (no idea what TIME he had this bottle during the day)
Lunch: baby oatmeal mixed with applesauce? I think or something like that.
Snack: unsure
Dinner: Piece of cheese (ate two bites, then spit out the rest) yogurt with oatmeal mixed in (ate two bites, spit out the rest), leftover "lunch" oatmeal/applesauce mix (took two bites and spit out the rest) --I only kept offering food b/c he was screaming and whining as if hungry, but wasn't keen on anything offered. I was cooking chicken, salsa, corn, black beans, rice and cream cheese one pot dish for me and DD....offered some of that when it was finished....again, took two bites and then refused any more. While he was screaming, I gave those baby PUFF snacks....which he devoured. UGH. Then he continued to fuss until I gave in and gave him a bottle.

He would live on cheerios, puffs, and some fruits ALL day.

He is not very interested in pasta, rice, meats, beans, fish, eggs....tends to try them and then spit them out.

I'm tired of the spitting out. :(

so we are back here again after a month of good eating!

Picky toddler has arrived ;)  I have heard that there is a big drop in appetite around 18 months...

Breakfast - half a pear and a small handful of Cheerios
Snack - piece of toast and a few mouthful of yogurt
Lunch - three snack crackers with peanut butter (soy based substitute with very similar nutritional profile to the real thing), a few bites of cheddar cheese, two strawberries
Snack - half of a graham wafer, few grapes
Dinner - refused what I made (chicken/yams) had a few bites of broccoli, managed to convince her to have a half serving of baby oatmeal and a half of a baby food pouch of veg/fruit mix.

I hate teething.

Wow, really interesting reading about what people's kids eat! Here's my LO's food for today. He's 16 months and pretty much eats what we eat. I don't give him grains, sugar or dairy. (His dad has MS so we are following Dr wahl's guidelines for eating with MS)

Breakfast: BF then 1 egg yolk on grain free bread, green smoothie (we have one every morning, today's had kale, banana, apricots, blueberries, green kombucha, avocado, spirulina and flax oil)

Snack: More smoothie

Lunch: leftover steak, veges (NZ yam - oca not sweet potato, courgette, broccoli, carrot, leek) cooked in chicken bone broth. More bone broth for a drink. 1 banana

Snack: BF, coconut blondies (essentially just coconut, honey and vanilla)

Dinner: chicken and vege soup with kumara (NZ sweet potato). Raspberries.

Supper: BF

Anna, she's still not feeling well, huh? :( Poor baby.  Hopefully, the cold subsides soon.  It's so hard when they don't eat because they are sick :(

Yesterday-
Breakfast: Pumpkin french toast, raspberries
Snack: Almond milk, cheerios
Lunch: Rice macaroni and "cheese"
Dinner: Grilled chicken, cinnamon applesauce

I'm so sad because I was so excited that DS was eating new things - ie pizza and mac n cheese, but his BMs have been runny and he has terrible diaper rash so I'm hoping that we're not coming upon yet another food intolerance (ie soy).  Unless it's just that his body is used to one set of foods and now that he's eating others it's throwing him off.  Also coming off of a virus so it could be that too. Sigh.

Starting to feel better...

Yesterday she cried and threw things when I gave her porridge - but ate LOADS of daddy's porridge, sitting on his knee
She stole his apple and gnawed away on it too
Lunch: she didn't really have much, a few raising and a tiny piece of pizza
Tea: fish fingers, spinach, sweet potato, broccoli, yoghurt - ate a normal amount again

Hello, I'm new here :) I thought it would be great to record what my  newly turned 12 month old was eating in a day. She's on the smaller side but quite enjoys her food!
Early morning 6am- breastfeed
Breakfast 8am- 1 organic weetbix with whole milk. Half a slice of fruit toast (picked at).
Morning tea 10am- breastfeed ( didn't take much, fell asleep)
Lunch approx 12.30- fresh blueberries cut up (devoured them!) , probably a quarter of a banana, baby low sugar yoghurt - half a small tub, some shredded cheese ( she loves cheese), a bit of whole milk in a sippy cup. Half of a whole grain slice of bread with vegemite which was just picked at ( was not into lunch today!)
Snack approx 2.30- rice cracker, breastfeed
Dinner approx 5.30- homemade spaghetti bolognaise with lots of spinach, carrot, tomato, etc in the mince. Fresh ravioli pasta to go with it (she ate most of a baby portion). Some more blueberries ( maybe 10 cut up) some slices of banana, a small dollar sized pikelet, some grated cheese. Water to drink
Supper:- approx 7pm, breastfeed
Will then breastfeed again maybe once during the night ( which I don't mind:)
I look forward to posting more of Eloise's food intake which is usually a bit more varied than today!:)

A bit of a topsy turvy day here! Had to get Eloise a holter monitor fitted for 24 hrs by the cardiologist at the big paed hospital in our city. 1 hrs drive away, so a bit all over the place today!

11.30- on way home in car a squeezy yoghurt (no mess no fuss!) then slept.

5pm- homemade spaghetti bolognaise ( lean mince, Italian tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, spinach, carrot) with angel hair pasta. A small bowl of steamed broccoli, a quarter of a banana, a few small  rice crackers, some organic Greek yoghurt with berries ( a few spoonfuls). Water to drink.

Audrey is often not a big breakfast person but she had a couple of spoons of porridge, like 10 Cheerios, a couple bites of banana

Lunch she had a big portion of spinach (wilted in butter), egg-fried rice, a couple of dried apricots and a pear.

For dinner she had a portion of 'egg roll in a bowl' (ground pork cooked up with a ton of fine diced/grated veggies with asian spices) over egg noodles. Ate loads and had a second helping. And then a little bowl of natural yoghurt (full fat) with a squirt of strawberry/peach puree in.

Snack: most of a banana, few bits of papaya
Lunch: rice, dhal, fried fish, cucumber.

well- i wasn't at home today- but yesterday he had:

breakfast: 2 mandarins
Morning tea: 2 weetbix and milk, and half a cup of milk (maybe less) (he requested the weetbix!)
Lunch: piece of toast with vegemite- as offerred cheese but didn't eat it
Afternoon tea: Sandwich with gluten free bread (that's my mum's doing ::) apparently wheat will kill you) mashed banana, chicken and unsalted peanut butter
Late afternoon: yoghurt- natural with some fruit
Dinner- wasn't there... so i THIN?K he ate a sausage with some tomato sauce... but cant be certain.

Then he had a yoghurt iceblock and a small piece of chocolate. :-[ it's easter...

He went to mum's for the afternoon yesterday- hence the sandwich. Usually with me he tends to graze all day. We are often out too so he has little bits here and there. I usually offer fruit, cheese, yoghurt, toast with vegemite cut into shapes like dinosaurs and puzzles.

Another favourite snack to graze on is steamed carrot rounds... they sometimes go down a treat!

ooh good ideas for my baby...steamed carrots that's a good one for a snack since they are naturally sweet. DD loves peas too.

i am pretty much running out of food at my house but my DS was home sick last 2 days so not able to run to store.

our day has just begun but so far she has had:
Breakfast: BF, cheerios in milk (trying to get her to use a spoon - somewhat successful!), dried blueberries, hard boiled egg
lunch:  i'm going to makes some spinach like anna since i have some i need to use up! thx for that idea! ...the egg roll in a bowl sounds delish!
dinner: we are going out to eat for DH's bday

katy - DD figured out quickly how to open easter eggs and ate a peanut butter egg under her grandad's watch! so i guess no point in me delaying peanut butter anymore! need to give her another taste to make sure she is not allergic (my DS has a tree nut allergy)

So far he's had:

B: Dry Rice Krispies multigrain and a cup of milk (he's going through a dry cereal phase)
Refused snack (breakfast was late, he didn't get up till 7!!!)
L: Home made pizza, he chose and put on the toppings (sweetcorn and prawns) http://mamacook.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/wholemeal-pizza-for-whole-family-loads.html
He's gone to a party with his Daddy this afternoon so he'll be filling up on rubbish and I'm not sure if he'll want tea but if he does I'm making him a pork mini meatloaf with pesto in it (recipe soon) as I figure it will probably be good cold tomorrow if he doesn't want it today.

Yes, I do - my mum always did, so I just roughly follow what she did. It's basically (I don't measure) 5-6 parts oats to one part each of wheatgerm and oatbran.  We like it toasted, so I mix a little honey in oil, heat it (makes it go further, so you don't need as much) and mix it through the oats etc,  then toast in a moderate oven for about 20 -30 mins, stirring every now and again. After it's toasted I add extras: raisins, apricots, chopped almonds and cashews, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, coconut, bran flakes or whatever I have of the above. And I sometimes add flaxseed as I serve it. F loves it!

Today was not such a brilliant day - weekends we're often out and about so not so many veges!

B: muesli, nibble of toast with peanut butter.
s: banana
L: out at an Indian restaurant, so mostly rice and naan ::) A bit of dhal and fish curry.
s: apple, guava, milk
d: pasta with bolonaise sauce, broccoli.

I feel like F hasn't been eating a lot of veges lately, and I think it's partly my fault for not preparing as complete meals recently when I've been so knackered. Have to be a bit more proactive about offering them in interesting ways, as well as hiding more for insurance!

Going to jump on to see if I can keep things going, and help myself see if I can get a better overall pic of what I am feeding my little man! He is unable to have milk, soy, oatmeal, eggs, and peanuts with varying reactions so there are still often times that he doesn't eat the exact same as the rest of the family but slowly changing that (despite my intense dislike for cooking and baking).  As well he is still getting 2 bottles of Neocate formula/day
So yesterday:
B: rice crispies with rice milk, pear and banana chunks
L: steamed cauliflower, bread (only a couple of bites of steamed carrots then tossed them on the floor)
S: rice cracker
D: bean burger, bread, steamed carrots and corn

B: pancakes and pear chunks

we have been OOT and my poor DD ate a bunch of junk. makes me feel so awful! she also loves french fries which i dont' give to her she steals them and my MIL will give them to her grrr.  my DD is not liking meat much these days. she rarely will eat chicken and never ground beef. i can  get her to eat a sandwich with meat though?

anyway, we just got back so i have no groceries. she will prob get oatmeal tomorrow morning. she loves feeding herself with a fork  or spoon these days as well.

does anyone feed their LOs green beans? (fresh, not canned) i can not get them cooked enough that she can eat them. she stuff several in her mouth and i will be pulling them out 30 minutes later. she also loves raw carrots but can't chew them obviously! (she is just getting her molars in). i thought i could try to slice them very thin?

she loves all fruit, esp blueberries but it is harder to get veggies in. she does love peas and lima beans (assuming legume, not a veggie!).

i always forget about your blog LT!

Yesterday was

B: soft boiled egg, salami, toast. Fruit, can't remember what.
S: half apple, cracker
L: bowl of noodles with egg, prawn and seaweed. Two pieces of sushi.
S: Offered coconut and banana, don't think she ate any though.
D: Falafel wrap w hummus, tomato, carrot, lettuce. Banana custard tart (refined sugar free)

Heather, my LO used to eat green beans - she would have at that age. Ok, so sometimes it was just sucking all the goodness out of them, but she did generally swallow some too. We're going through an on-off phase with vegies atm - sometimes she will eat them, sometimes she'll go several days refusing any. She won't usually touch salad BUT will in a wrap, I have discovered - so long as it's very well wrapped so nothing is falling out! Have you tried grating the carrot? Raw carrot is a complete no-go here unless grated...and in a wrap.

Have had a bit of cold over here so don't know if it is that but he didn't really eat much the last few days. Just a couple of bite of this or that. Yesterday was a little more normal.
B: pancakes, banana
L: steamed broccoli, bread with hummus
S: puffed wheat, strawberries
D: bean burgers, mixed veggies

Not the healthiest day!
Your day sounds just fine by my standards, lol ;)

Neither of my LOs have never really eaten green beans. I think it is maybe how I offer them?? It isn't a vegetable that we have often as part of our meals though, and I never had them often as a child so yet another reason?  As for carrots what I will do for DS2 is steam them and offer the leftovers cold the next day. They are great for when we have park picnics! DS1 never liked carrots (the only purée he would refuse as a baby!) so not much help there!

Do other people's LOs do ok with repetition or do they like variety?  DD basically had the same lunch and dinner as yesterday (same meat but different fruit/veg) just because I still had some that needed eating.  She doesn't mind having the same thing 2 days running (but also willingly tries most new foods), but I have noticed sometimes she gets fixed on a certain food and then refuses it.  For a while she was crazy about avocado and I gave her one pretty much every day since it's so healthy.  Now she won't touch them, I think it was overkill!

We often have dinner leftovers for lunch the next day - and once a week, dinner is generally finishing up whatever needs to be eaten from the fridge, so a variety of leftovers. F never seems to mind - and I don't think we need 21 different meals a week, yk? Breakfast is usually the same muesli, we have something different a couple of times a week.

Yesterday was

Wow, your toddlers eat really well :) and their menus are really varied.  My DD tends to eat the same things over and over, especially for breakfast and lunch.  She goes to daycare and they offer breakfast (usually a starch like pancakes, fruit, and milk).  I pack lunches and snacks.  I try to give a starch, a meat, and fruit for lunches.  Since she is so picky, daycare puts out only the meat first :( and by the time she finishes that she is hardly interested in the rest of her lunch, or worse yet they don't offer anything else because she hasn't finish her meat.  I don't pack a large portion of meat either.

My question to you ladies is how do you get your toddlers to accept such a varied diet?  Dinner time is the only time I get to experiment new foods.  Usually she will take a bite of the new food and spit it out and starts crying if she doesn't see something else familiar :(.  So I feel like we're stuck with the usual mac n cheese, rice, deli meat, fruits, sweet potatoes, string cheese, etc.

Mama2athena, I think part of it is I'm just lucky to have a kid who likes his food. We do baby led weaning so hes always eaten what we eat, and we are adventurous eaters. But I also have a few tricks
I usually give him veges first, then meat, then starch. Otherwise he'd just fill up on potato and not eat anything else. I don't actually give him much carbs at all.
If he's going through a picky stage, I don't give him snacks so he is ravenous at meal times.
I will often cook veges in stock or broth to give them a meaty flavour- he loves his meat!
He is getting pickier, and I now ask him to have one bite of everything on his plate. If he doesn't want any more, that's okay, but he knows he won't get anything else.

Remember though it is natural for toddlers to be picky, my doctor told me it's a safety feature for them. when they are little they can only eat what we give them or place nea them. But when they become mobile and can run off and eat whatever they might find, they get pickier to reduce the chances of them eating something poisonous. If it is an unfamiliar food, they are unlikely to accept it in toddlerhood. Don't give up though!

We did BLW as well, and F has always just been offered the same as us since she was about 8 months old. She doesn't have to eat anything but she knows that she doesn't get more of one thing unless she's tried the other things on her plate - and I don't offer an alternative (although might tone down a curry for her, etc). She goes through phases of not eating stuff, but generally eats a decent variety so I do feel pretty lucky that I've never had to worry about what she eats!

Today was
B: practically nothing, not sure why. A teaspoon of porridge.
S: apple
L: was ravenous, of course. Huge bowl of noodle soup with wantons, tofu and seaweed.
D: corn chips w guacamole, salmon coulibiac, cucumber sticks. Watermelon, grapes and rambutan.

I've just been reading recommendations with amounts for DD's age and some sample meals. I must say I am a bit worried she's not eating enough.
What do you ladies think about this:
Yesterday
WU milk 150ml
B: 3 tblsp cereal, 5 berries
S: 1 slice cheese, 1 strawberry, 80ml jog, 2 bites of eggy bread
L: 1 tblsp mince, 1tblsp potato, 1tbs pumpkin, 1 slice ham, 3 cauliflower florets - wouldn't eat more
S: 1 cracker
D: 1 tbsp mince, 1tbsp potato (left from her lunch), 1/4 slice bread, 3 cherry tomatoes, 40ml jog
BT milk: 160ml

Today
WU milk 150ml
B: 1tblsp cereal 3 berries - wasn't interested in more
S: 2 tblsp cereal (finished off her B 2h later)
S: 50ml pumpkin-ginger soup
L: 2 tblsp chicken, 1/4 slice bread with cream cheese, 2 cherry tomatos, 60ml milk
S: 1/2 segment orange, 2 sticks watermelon, 3 florets cauliflower
D: 1/2 cup pumpkin-ginger soup
BT milk: 160ml

^^ I think this looks ok :) Seems like a decent mix of things, and I wouldn't worry too much about amounts as toddlers still have small stomachs and it doesn't take much to fill them up!  Mine has days (like today) where she hardly eats anything, but over the course of a week I think she gets a good balance and quantity.  Today she only had a yogurt for breakfast, 2 bites of chicken for lunch (ignored the veg), and so far she's only gone for a few cherries this afternoon.  Yesterday was a good day:

B: homemade fruit smoothie with coconut milk and coconut oil
L: omelette with bacon, kale, onion and red pepper
D: vegetable soup, banana bread

No snacks, water throughout the day, milk first thing and with dinner
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 8

I think it looks fine too - the snacks are pretty substantial so if you wanted to scale back on them a little she might eat more for her main meals, but that said the snacks are balanced so it's probably all fine. LOs are really good at self regulating how much  they need and of what, so long as we provide them with healthy options of course ;) Like pp says, it's better to look at what they eat over the course of a week or so, rather than day by day.

Yaay, thanks:) The amounts on some websites are double what DD eats.

Today was ok so far, she had most of her breakfast porridge with 1/2 a nectarine ans I got her to drink half a cup of veg soup. But I think that's because I let her drink it out of a wine glass instead of a bowl, lol.

Lol, imagining a 17mo drinking soup out of a wine glass!  ;D

Today was a good food day here :)
B: banana pudding (made with banana, coconut oil, coconut milk, egg yolk, almond butter, vanilla, cinnamon)
L: bowl of mince (beef) with tomatoes and cheese
D: veggie stir fry to get rid of some that needed using up
S: frozen blueberries

my DD ate complete cr@p this past week bc we were visiting family. i mean one day they were giving her fruit loops as a snack. i about died but we are back home now.

anyway, we are home and don't have many groceries so slim pickings around here.

eva - my DD often eats more than my 6 year old and then other times she doesn't eat much. i wouldn't worry about. she shd let you know if she is still hungry or not.

emma - wow that banana pudding sounds delish! my DD wont' eat ground beef :(

i am thankful my DD will eat veggies and fruit. she loves blueberries & peaches!

The ground beef is a recent thing here.  I know she likes beef because she'll eat it roasted or in meatloaf, burger etc but always spat out mince, maybe a texture thing?  But I've offered it every once in a while and the last couple of months she's started enjoying it.

Today has been -
B: the rest of the banana pudding (yes it is yummy!)
L: scrambled egg and asparagus
D: some grapes  ::) wouldn't touch her turkey burger and also refused a yogurt

She's having some BT milk now and I guess that'll be it!

Mine is the opposite, she'll eat anything out of mince but isn't mad about whole bits of meat, spits them out.
I am definitely more relaxed about her eating though. Good to know how others compare.

Yesterday:
B: Porridge with blackberries and milk
S: Slice of cheese and a bit of broccoli
L1: Baked beans, mini meatball, pasta and broccoli again (ate half)
L2: Finished off her lunch
S: peach, cucumber, watermelon
D: yoghurt

The whole recent discovery of utensils helps a lot, she eats so much more with a fork than she did with her hand. Wonder how long it will take for the novelty to wear off.

Today was a good food day here :)

L: bowl of mince (beef) with tomatoes and cheese
D: veggie stir fry to get rid of some that needed using up

I'd love the recipe for the banana pudding if you could post it!

Here is the recipe (can't take any credit for it myself!):

I had an issue with step 1 in that it never thickened, but I threw it all together anyway and it still turned out great :)

D. Roast potatoes, sweet potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, sausage.
Mmm... Sounds so good!  I miss my Sunday roast.  I always used to go to my mums for that even after I left home, but now I'm 4000 miles away and it seems like too much effort to cook it for the 2 of us  :-\

The fudge is really easy:
1 cup nut butter (you can use any but I like cashew butter best)
1/3 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 cup honey
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
That's the basic recipe but you can also add fruit (mine had banana in it), cocoa powder, coconut flakes, or anything really.  Just whizz it in the food processor until it's smooth, pour it into a pan and stick it in the freezer so it sets.  You eat it straight out of the freezer as it's a bit runny / gooey at room temperature. It's so good!

I'm sorry, I'm going to resurrect this thread and be *that* parent who is smug about their kids eating veggies. DD is still barely acknowledging breakfast and usually has a decent lunch, but omg I am SO happy with her dinners!  I don't know if she just gets hungrier as the day goes on or what but she basically has been eating anything I put in front of her.  Tonight she had spaghetti squash stirred through with onion, garlic, spinach, tomatoes and sardines(!!!).  I can't believe she ate sardines!  I've never been able to get her to eat fish except the occasional bit of salmon.  Hooray brain food!

sardines, that's impressive.  can't get myself to eat them much less DD;)
DD has been feeling a bit ill and is living on air of late.

Today breakfast: 4 tsp cereal, 1/3 sausage
snack: 10 corn chips (kiddies version, no fat or salt)
Lunch: 2 cherry tomatoes and the rest of her breakfast sausage, refused everything else I gave her
Dinner: I have cooked some spaghetti and told her it was snakes so she is having some of that, hissing with every mouthful. Doesn't want anything on it though

Grrr hate it when she's like this

Thought I might try to get this going again. My DD eats terribly so it nice to see what everyone else is doing (and get a few ideas).
So I'll start with yesterday, that was terrible pretty much refused all meals and just ate her snacks.

Breakfast: 2 slice seeded wholemeal toast with butter (fed most to the dogs)
Snack: watermelon, raisins, rice cakes
Lunch: Ham sandwich (2 bites), tangerine, yoghurt
Snack: Breadsticks, grapes
Dinner: Sausages, scrambled egg, toast (ate a small bit of toast)

How funny - I am just going through a pile of paperwork in the kitchen and among the papers I found a recipe written on a scrap of paper - the other side was a list of what DD had eaten for the day, noted down for me to post on here! Funny thing is it must be about 4yrs old as she's 7.5 now LOL! This used to be one of my favourite threads when DD was little (along with the menu planning thread - can you see a theme there?! I'm all about the food  :P ::)) For some reason I haven't done it with DS - probably lack of time with two! - but will make an effort to do it (at least once in a while!) as I always found it helpful to see what everyone else was eating and get ideas (as you said) and even pinch some recipes!  ;) DS eats fairly well - though does refuse dinner quite often if it's not what he fancies - I don't worry too much though cos he eats a varied diet and I remember DD used to do it around this age.

Going to try and remember what DS had yesterday:
B: Juicy water (watered down OJ), slice of toast and butter, blueberries and grapes
S: Half a toasted fruit teacake and milk
S: (post swimming) few crackers
L: Cheese sandwich, half an avocado, couple of cucumber slices, couple of cherry toms, couple of green and black olives, fruit pot, handful of blueberries, water
S: milk
D: pasta with pesto, s-d toms, green & black olives, capers, topped with grated cheese (his favourite tea - he cheered when he came into the kitchen!), yoghurt, pack of yoghurt raisins

I wouldn't say it was a typical day really - seems to be quite a lot, but it was his favourite meal which I think he would eat every day given half the chance!  ::)

L: 1/2 Pb/banana/honey sandwich, the remainder of the parfait from breakfast, guacamole/chips, carrots, (can't remember the last thing in her box) apple juice  (she can't drink milk)
Snack: mini lara bar and i'll prob slice an apple/goldfish
Dinner: chicken tortilla soup, avocado, salad

It sounds terrible but I feel more relaxed when i see other lo's not eating much either.
Doesn't sound terrible at all me dear  ;) I remember someone telling me when DD was little not to look at what a LO has eaten in a day, to look at a whole week instead - you usually find that they have 'averaged' out the calories: somedays eating more than others (def true of DS this week!  ;)) and also that a LO will not starve - they self regulate way better than we do. I don't want to start a thread for us cos then I'd realise how much I actually eat  :P

Yesterday:
B: 2 bowls of porridge with mixed dried fruit topped with cheerios and drizzle of honey, lots of melon, juicy water
S: none - breakfast was late
L: spicy cabbage & butter bean soup, crusty bread roll with cream cheese, fruit pot, sesame/cranberry bite, water
S: milk (not sure if he had anything to eat - was out with DD and he was at home with DH)
D: sloppy joe in bread bun, potato wedges - couple of bites of sloppy joe, one potato wedge  ::)

Also helpful to remember their stomachs are darn tiny...DH was feeding E a snack at 4 pm and then surprised that when supper came at 5:30 pm she was not hungry.

So supper last night ended up being garlic toast and banana as she rejected the mac & cheese. A few choc covered raisins for dessert rounded out the meal :P. E is a total chocoholic, when she was sick she only wanted formula & chocolate (we hadfound a stash from last easter that was still good!).

Dd1 loves chocolate,  I swear she can smell it a mile away.

B cereal ( refused)
L 2 sausages and toast
S watermelon,  raisins  banana
D spag bols ( 2 spoons) 2 maltesers

Do you all sit down and eat together?
Title: Re: What Did Your Toddler Eat Today? Part 8

Yes we mostly do...exception being breakfast on sat/sun...DH & are up first, he eats then, then he feeds the kids and once they are done I eat (I cannot stomach food right when I wake up).  If it is just me and E I try to at least have a snack while she eats and sit with her.

Today so far:

B - toast with hummus & formula
S - was a run on affair as she found the crackers - probably had 6
L - garlic toast, 1/2 banana, oatmeal (ate hers and DD2's leftovers!)
S - baby puff snacks, 2 pretzels
S (supper...I don't call it dinner!) - plan is spaghetti, which usually she loves. And leftover choc cake.

Oh and I am purposely feeding her a lot of binding foods as she had the runs at daycare friday (yeah they fed her too much fruit and then gave her raisins) so that is why her diet is mostly rice crackers, bananas and oatmeal! Usually she has fruit & veg too (though she is not big on her veg at all). I have to work mon/tue and she will get sent home if she has diarrhea again.

I love a food monster  ;)

Also helpful to remember their stomachs are darn tiny...
Yes I always forget that your stomach is the size of your fist - saw it on a TV programme yrs ago - and that your portion size shouldn't be any bigger than that . . . I am guilty of eating way more than my fist sized portion  :-[ And also probably overload the LOs plates too.

Yesterday:
B: slice of toast, lots of melon, juicy water, milk
S: none - had a late breakfast
L: 'pick & mix' plate - half an avocado, salami, cheese, hummus, breadsticks, green & black olives, cherry toms & cucumber, chocolate/orange pudding (pot), mini hot chocolate with cream & marshmallows, tangerine
S: milk
D: 'sausage' pasta bake (made with pork mince, passata, grated courgette, topped with cheese), plum clafoutis with custard, bit of chocolate (another chocoholic here I think!), tangerine

Berni I am the same way with my own eating! I am also guilty of not buying things DH and I don't eat for the kids to at least try (like olives!). I hate food waste so I serve really small portions and then they get seconds if they want. Will be back tonight to report the day!

Berni I am the same way with my own eating!
Pleased to hear that I'm not the only one!  ;)

I am also guilty of not buying things DH and I don't eat for the kids to at least try (like olives!).
I think most people are probably guilty of this - as both DH and I love olives the LOs have always been 'exposed' to them - they both rejected them at first - can't remember exactly at what age they were offered but both LOs signed 'grapes' when they saw them - bit of a shocker if you think you're going to taste a sweet grape and you get the salty taste of olive LOL!

DD always likes to have 'olives and pickle (gherkin) on the side' of her lunch and will often ask where they are if I don't put them on! When she takes packed lunch to school she has a 'veg box' which consists of: 2 cherry toms, couple of slices of cucumber, 2 green olives, 2 black olives, 1 pickle. Some of the other LOs have 'commented' on her veg box (and by commented I'm being polite  >:() and she was a bit upset - I did say that if she was bothered I would stop putting things in that were 'different from the norm' but she said she wanted to carry on taking them cos she loves them  ;D I was very proud as I explained that they were the ones missing out!  ;) DS still hasn't quite got to the pickle stage yet - has a bite or small piece but that's as far as it goes - we're on a mission to convert him LOL!

I hate food waste so I serve really small portions and then they get seconds if they want.
I'm the same - TBH we have very little food waste as it's something I try to be conscious of. Though you have pointed out the obvious there - I should put out smaller portions and then they can ask for more rather than overloading their plates. I miss having the dogs as they were very good at consuming any waste!  ;) DH quite often has 'seconds' now - which basically means that he eats whatever DS has refused  ;) DD is pretty good at eating whatever is put in front of her - in fact this past couple of weeks she is permanently hungry so I'm wondering if she is in a GS (do they get them at 7.5yo  ???) as I can't seem to fill her.

Anyway - I veered slightly OT there . . . could talk about food all day LOL!!

Here's what DS had today:
B: slice of toast, few handfuls of blueberries, banana, juicy water, milk
S: cup of milk on way to playgroup - said he had a biscuit at playgroup but he could have had more
L: leftover sausage pasta bake, yoghurt, water
S: milk, organix cheese crackers
D: pick & mix plate:  half an avocado, salami, cheese, hummus, breadsticks, green & black olives, cherry toms & cucumber, fruit in jelly pot, yoghurt raisins, water

Growth spurst happen still for my older two every birthday & half birthday! Fun times as they all three have birthdays within 3 weeks of each other! Our dogs have allergies and irritable bowel so no scraps for those big guys no matter how cute they look!

Today was a daycare day but for now they keep a sheet for E,

B - toast & milk
S - apple slices & bagel
L - lol poor kid got spaghetti, good thing she likes it!
S - oranges & crackers
S - 1/2 of a 6 inch sub (just meat and cheese in it) and 1/2 a cookie (afaik, I left for music class while she was still eating).

My kids get made fun of for bringing tuna for lunch, but they love it so they don't care!

That makes sense now then - half birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks. Haven't ever really noticed such an increase though - ATM all I seem to hear is 'I'm still hungry' - and that's after she's eaten as much (if not more!) than me!

Fun times as they all three have birthdays within 3 weeks of each other!
Your food bill must increase substantially LOL!

My kids get made fun of for bringing tuna for lunch, but they love it so they don't care!

Haribo - your DS is a food monster! I LOVE that he was hungry at 6am and had a 'snack' before his breakfast! (thought TBH I would be mortified if DS told me he was hungry at that time - Mr Sunshine doesn't get up til 7am so neither does DS!  ;))

Today:
B: slice of jam on toast, kiwi, couple of handfuls of blueberries, small banana, juicy water
S: cup of milk, organix cheesy crackers
S: cup of milk after swimming
L: half a cheese & ham toastie, half a chocolate/marshmallow teacake, juicy water
S: cup of milk, apple*
D: pesto pasta with s-d toms, capers, black & green olives topped with grated cheese, couple of cherry toms & slices of cucumber on the side, couple of bites of pretzel (the large bread type ones as opposed to the crackers), strawberry muller rice, water
S: bit of chocolate (LOs tend to have a 'sweet treat' after dinner whilst watching a bit of TV!)

*DS was asking for an apple this morning after breakfast (when he'd finished all the other fruits in the bowl!) but we just didn't have time before the school run - and he doesn't really eat them much anyway. He reminded me this afternoon that he'd been asking for an apple (cos 'they are so lovely and crunchy' apparently!) so I said I'd chop it up for him and put it in his snack bowl - he said 'No, I want to do big bites'. I took a bite out of it to get him started and was half expecting him to bring it back a couple of minutes later saying he was 'finished'. He sat himself on the sofa watching an episode on Thomas and when it ended he did bring what was left of the apple to me . . . pretty much just the stalk!!! I couldn't believe it but he had eaten all the 'core'  :o I wouldn't even eat that myself! It wouldn't be so shocking if he loved apples - but if I slice one up he only has a couple of bits and I eat the rest. They are funny these LOs!
