Title: Starting pastina tomorrow
Post by: scucci1979 on March 22, 2011, 20:29:20 pm
What can I mix with it? Would butter be fine?

I did butter and a pinch of parm cheese or some add a splash of homemade chicken/turkey broth.

pastina is small pasta shapes - usually tiny shapes that LOs can just swallow without chewing.
I started off with pastina in veg soup/broth and also a little drop of ex-virgin olive oil and a grating  of parmesan cheese.
Good luck!

Ooh!  One of our baby favorites!!  :)  I would add chicken broth, chopped spinach, tiny diced well cooked carrots (melt in your mouth cooked).  My daughter especially loved it and still loves spinach today, and she's picky!  My kids lived on this stuff from the age of 12-18 or 24 months.

Oh, and to get the carrots mushy I would cook them in a pressure cooker in the broth (without the noodles or spinach).  I make home made chicken soup that way too so sometimes I'd just take the broth and carrots from that and make the kids their own soup.  Freezes great too !!

going to have to make some batches. I have to try spinach. Sounds yummy.

My mom made me some fresh batches of chicken soup. I would like to make my own.
Do you use the chicken cubes or real chicken to make your soup?

Real and then freeze.

I'm particular about sodium intake so I use real chicken -- usually boneless/skinless but will throw in a leg or thigh sometimes to get that flavor (freeze the rest of the package).  Chicken, tons of carrots, 2 small tomato, 2 green pepper, large onion, lots of garlic -- thats a good base for any broth soup.

If your LO can tolerate it and you've already tried it you can use tomato based sauce or a cheese based sauce and soft veggies that they're already doing well with. DD used to LOVE pastina, tomato sauce, veggies and some parm. cheese on top. MMMMMMMM
