Title: how long to see a reaction?
Post by: bug_blues70 on March 23, 2011, 17:41:40 pm
When you do an ED, and you introduce new foods, about how long does it normally take to see a reaction? As in, how long before it gets into your BM and then into their system?

TIA!

I would say a few hours to get into their systems. It can take days to show a reaction though. It can be a case they are mildly intolerant and a little bit of won't effect them but after 3 or 4 dyas then it builds in their system and then the reaction takes place.

so there's pretty much no way to time challenges so the screaming happens during the day then, huh? i was thinking eat the food in the late evening so the crying happens in the morning. But then I run the risk of an all-nighter, huh?

My dietician recommends 7 days for each new food group.  Sometimes it can take that long for a build up reaction to occur.    I found when bubs was young about 1-2 days t show and about 2-5 days to disappear once the food was taken out.

you will find patience you never knew you had  ::)   Its ridiculous really for how long everything takes!  Such a loooonnnngggg term commitment.  Once you do the food challenges there is also the reintroduction of previously failed foods - to be added slowly to build up their threshold.

well, I guess I'm in it for the long haul then :-\ Tried chicken last night - I was avoiding it b/c all the chicken here has broth and other ingredients in it (which infuriates me... why can't I buy just straight chicken!?!?!?!) but I needed some protein, and so far so good.

fresh chicken, cooked yourself at home,  either via  toasting in the oven, steaming, or frying without browning, skin off,  is the safest of all meats.  Same for Lamb.  Both are recommended for babies quite early on in this diet, so they can get some protein into them.

that's my problem tho - there is no fresh chicken here, and it all has additives in it. I don't even think we have butchers - or at least I don't know of any. But I think he's doing ok with the chicken I have, so that's good :)

ok well, now I guess i'm feeling kinda silly. I never noticed a butchers section, but I usually shop at a super target, not a real grocery store. But DH says some do. I had no idea.  :-[ I wonder if they really sell chicken that has no broth or additives! I'll be so excited if they do!
