Title: Did I miss something?
Post by: ~*~Louisa~*~ on March 27, 2011, 08:16:57 am
So as i think ive said enough, we are on a neocate trial for 4 days...

Previously i was mix feeding and I was egg, dairy, soya and low sals with occational moderates

her reflux seemed to get alot worse its been a nightmare ranitidine hasnt been helping at all

Since switching to pure neocate its stopped!  even the amount of sick as stopped

now i'm thinking there might of been something in my diet still agrovating her all I can think of being left is gluten

We never really thought of gluten as we knew the other things caused a huge reaction where as this hasnt been as bad
but on thinking of it DD#1 had issues with gluten untill 8 months (nothing to huge just constipated her like mad, we used prunes to unblock her which worked but on hindsite it looks like sal intollerence as we did have face issues with the prunes too lol)

on the whole while I was breast feeding I was mainly only havng hidden gluten, im not a big fan of bread or anything

what do you lot think does it sound likely to of been gluten?

obviously if we go back to breast feeding then I will do a trial to know either way
but if we don't I dont want to wean gluten free if i dont have to as it seems alot to cut out for her

Hmm, not sure whether gluten affects reflux. Might be worth asking over on the CRC board?

I think it would be more likely to be amines, preservatives, additives or glutamates.  While glutamates and amines are not as common  for intolerance than sals, if the bub is very sensitive they are very likely to be intolerant to them also.  This is coming from my dietician (who specialises in paediatric allergy and intolerance).

The hidden preservatives and additves in everything are hard to get rid of and very likely to cause problems for a sals intolerant bub.

Think of it this way, they are all chemicals that aren't metabolised properly for one reason or another - maybe bub hasn't developed the enzymes required yet. (Just one possible reason) So the body is unable to clear them out of the system and they actually build up in toxic levels this causing a reaction.

We saw the dietion and she thinks its gluten, she said in a child who is very atopic (though i dont quite understand atopic, ive heard of atopic excema but never just atopic) they would assume gluten and nuts even if they havent had ED's and trials

gluten and nuts are not to be trialed untill she is a year old
