Have been on the wholesomebabyfood site looking at recipes. Some recipes call for "Pumpkin puree", such as this recipe:
Pumpkin Cereal
Blend pumpkin puree together with oatmeal or rice cereal
Is she talking about homemade pumpkin puree bc there's no recipe for homemade pumpkin puree on the site, or is she talking about canned pumpkin puree? I have a can of this in my pantry and it says it's made with no preservatives and the ingredients are just "pumpkin"..so....would this be sufficient?
(I'd imagine making pumpkin puree from scratch is a long process, not to mention only able to do in season?)

Homemade pumpkin puree = easy peasy :)
Cut up pumpkin and either roast with a dash of olive oil or steam until tender.
Blend up - Add water if you need a thinner consistancy
Done :-* Best thing is a good chunk of pumpkin goes a long way and you can freeze in ice cube trays or little portionsand mix with other veges/fruit like pear/sweet potato
But the tinned version would work just as well.

Is it easy peasy to find a pumpkin?? LOL......I feel like I never see them unless it's fall/halloween time! I'll have to ask my local supermarkets if they carry them throughout the year or not.
Do you skin the pumpkin?

Ahhhh LOL I take them for granted we have pumpkins here in NZ ALL the time :P What about squash or butternut they are diff types of pumpkin really?
Yup I take the skin off, or if you roast them with it on it comes off easy after being cooked and cooled.
Sorry Justine, I just assumed you had the pumpkins available.

We also have squash in the supermarket all year round! Still not far off hallowe'en! I used to boil until tender then puree without adding any water because it was pretty wet from memory. If it's too runny after pureeing then add some baby rice to thicken.

No worries, Sara! yes I presume it'd be about the same - but I just love the taste of pumpkin over any other squash so I'm partial! ;)

you can peel AFTER steaming - the skin comes off really easily. Just scrape off the pumpkin flesh and stick in the blender along with whatever liquid/juice collected at the bottom of the dish from steaming. super easy, and so delicious. I even make pumpkin popsicles for my 3yo. steam pumpkin, sweeten with honey, stick into popsicle moulds, and voila, super healthy :) You can add cream if you want it like a creamsicle! :)
