Title: Avocado and...what?
Post by: weaver on October 05, 2011, 12:55:12 pm
LO loves avocado and so do I.  I'm a bit short on ideas though, he usually just ends up eating slices alongside cherry tomatoes and such.  Any suggestions?

My guy used to love it in a sandwich, alone or with some cream cheese or egg or hummus. Or you could make a basic guacamole (without the chili) and he could dip things in it.

It's yummy spread on warm toast (even better if the bread is whole wheat). Mmmmm!

Mash up and make a dip, maybe with some cream cheese and as your LO is older, maybe make a guacamole with tomato, coriander (cilantro), some mild chilli and lime juice?  Would be good in quesadillas too.

Mashed with banana is great and would make a good dip/spread too!

I haven't tried this one as I am really *basic* when it comes to food and am unsure of the combo, but, apparently avocado & chicken/sliced ham is rich in a sandwich if your willing to try that one?  ;D

I have to say I have a fondness for avocado, cheese, mayo and sun-dried tomatoes in a sandwich.  Which probably even richer than your suggestion!

These all look good, thanks! Avos probably off the menu now, given the season, but some tasty stuff to look forward to.

I had avocado slices on a pizza the other night for the first time ... it was deeeeelicious! It goes a bit tougher and tastes really nutty! I've never cooked it before, but this was great!

You could put it in a quesadilla or mash it up into a guacamole and serve as a dip alongside?  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/05/quesadillas-ok-for-adults-12-months.html

No need to completely exclude chilli at this age IMO, unless they really hate it.

But I haven't tried him with chilli yet so it's a good thing you reminded me, Lemon!  You're obviously keen on the quesadillas....

Well it's easy!  Also my son went through this big aversion to sandwiches stage and quesadillas were an easy alternative.

my kids loved it with banana as babies on BLW....Oscr then went off it for YEARS literally as with everything else green but now is fine with avocado as a dip or sauce of sorts on a quesadilla or tortilla etc etc...

Mashed with mango and frozen makes a geat sorbet-like treat!
