Title: Soya milk for 12 month old - quick question
Post by: *jazzberry* on January 30, 2012, 20:30:09 pm
Sorry if this is the wrong place, wasn't sure where to put it.
I've run out of full fat milk (as I bought skimmed by accident thinking that was the one we had run out of ::) :-[ ) so just wondering if there is any reason not to give dd soya milk in the morning? Or do I need to get DH to pick some cows milk up on his way home (on his bike at midnight after a 12 hour shift - he will not be impressed...)
She is not fussy, I'm pretty sure she'll drink it, just wanted to make sure it's ok?

Soya can be hard to digest etc and lots of kids that can't tolerate dairy find it hard.  Saying that, my wee brother lived on the stuff (and still does).  As a one-off it wont cause harm (maybe sore bottom, if anything - that's what it does to my boys)... you could always use fruit juice (very weak) or water instead ???

We have no dairy problems or anything else. Can it still be a problem then? I've got a carton of coconut milk, would that be better?

or shall I phone DH :-\

coconut milk is usually recommended if dairy free as good amounts of fat etc so personally I would go for that ... not sure if can be an issue without dairy problems.  I wouldn't phone DH - worst case scenario is she wont take either milk, but could have something else instead :)

If she is ok with milk I can't see a reason not to give it tbh.

Ok thanks ladies. As the soya milk is already open (we don't usually have it but opened it so the boys could have some tonight) I think we'll give that a go.
Is cow's milk the best milk to give then after 12 months? Both my boys had it, I know that's what most people do, just wondering if there are *better* alternatives??

If she is fine with dairy then cows milk is the best, and cheapest!  Hopefully she is fine with soya milk - sure she will be.
