Title: How did you feed your baby eggs?
Post by: oneplusone on January 31, 2012, 14:43:56 pm: My Dr gave the go ahead to feed eggs to my LO. He mostly eggs purees and egg puree isn't really that appetizing! I've tried a few finger foods with him, but he doesn't seem to get it yet. Do you think scrambled eggs would work? Obviously I want them really well cooked. How did you introduce eggs to your baby?

Post by: Rebekahb on January 31, 2012, 15:00:08 pm: hi, my LO's never liked scrambled eggs but we made a custard with a egg yolk, little ebm or formula and cooked it in the microwave. sometimes added a sprinkle of sugar before cooking and it was desert. we also made a french toast idea once they were eating bread that they enjoyed 'cause they could pick up with their fingers.

Post by: cuckoochick on January 31, 2012, 16:52:32 pm: Our DD loves scrambled eggs and has done since about 7mos. We also gave her egg sandwiches from about that time too. She has had frittata and omelettes too as they're a quick and easy lunch.

Sorry just read back and realised your LO has purees. We did blw from about 6.5mos as DD wouldn't go for purees. Wanted what we were having! :P

Post by: Diana1981 on January 31, 2012, 17:51:29 pm: I only gave him the yolk for the first year! Egg whites can be very allergic. I hard boiled an egg and then smashed the yolk with some salt.

Post by: oneplusone on January 31, 2012, 19:30:22 pm: My LO won't eat finger food, but he loves puréed food. He's funny in that he can eat with a spoon already but doesn't like to eat with his hands. I give him lots of food to try but he'd rather eat with the spoon. I'll try custard and scrambled eggs. We don't have any egg allergies in our family and our Dr said the latest research doesn't indicate you should delay introducing any foods (except honey bc it's unpasterized). Of course you should always do what you're comfortable with. I think we're going to try eggs because if they are allergic then you know and eggs are in so many other things it's hard to tell what's causing the reaction.

Post by: Lemonthyme on February 02, 2012, 20:23:27 pm: UK HVs recommend egg with the white and all from 6 months. Evidence isn't proven that avoiding allergenic foods helps avoid allergies, in fact it could be the other way round.

Eggs are a good idea as they have a good amount of vitamin D in them (not many foods contain vitamin D.)

Post by: *Kara* on February 03, 2012, 05:04:54 am: I delayed the whites as well only because DH had allergies to so many things as a kid... even if LO does have a reaction (egg whites can cause a rash around the mouth), most outgrow it around a year of age... I would give it a go and see what happens.

I would scramble with a bit of milk/BM/formula.

Previous poster mentioned adding salt - I wouldn't. Babies do not need salt at all.

Post by: oneplusone on February 03, 2012, 14:47:54 pm: Thanks for the other recipes. Yes, studies now show that avoiding foods all together (eggs, peanuts) can actually lead to more severe allergies. My Dr said the only thing to avoid is unpasterized honey due to the risk of bacteria.

Kara - I agree, definitely no salt!

Post by: Ima shel Alon on February 03, 2012, 18:16:30 pm: I used to boil an egg, grind it and add a little bit of olive oil to it, it was like an egg spread, and that way I could give it with a spoon.

Did I? I don't add any salt to my son's food. I agree, babies don't need salt, I don't give my toddler added salt either.
