Hi everyone,
Just wondering your opinions on when to give sandwiches as a finger food. DS started finger foods a couple of weeks ago & i wanted to try him on sandwiches but heard i shouldn't because they kind of go a bit glugy & they can get stuck in his throat. What do you think?? He's 9 months in a couple of days...

We were recommended by plunket, sandwiches were fine from ~9 months, little ones cut small without crusts and soft white bread. They mush up pretty well. Z never had issues with them and he only had 4 teeth at the time, actually they are his favourate (along with toast ::) ) you can try toast first if you want. ;) obviously as with all food at this age you want to watch your LO :)

Mine had fingerfoods from the start along with puree so they both were eating sandwiches by 7 months! A little bit of cheese spread went down well!

I've had more success with sandwiches than toast. He's 10 months now, but he's had bread/toast since ~7 months.

We've done sandwiches here for a couple of weeks now...ds loves them!

He had sandwiches from 6 months but frankly wasn't all that fussed until he could have more interesting fillings but 9 months should be absolutely fine.

We started giving things like baby food puree spread on toast points sometime around 9-10 months. Two slices of bread was a bit too thick for mine at that age (her mouth was tiny). She also had no teeth until 10 months.

i am about to start sandwiches and DD is nearly 9 months x

We did a lot of open-topped sandwiches here for a while. Cheese spread and some grated cheese, tuna mayo etc. DD still often pulls them apart to eat them anyway!!! :P

Thanks everyone.
He went pretty good with it. He ate a bit, wore a lot lol But their wasn't any gagging or anything. He was so excited to get some more!

Yay! We started sandwiches this week too! Is ok.. i think the filling is too boring, and the bread is too healthy.. watch the fresh soft white bread- that stuff can glug up!! My guy today ate a quarter of a slice- loved it, but just balled it up on the roof of his mouth!! Did much better with the less fresh stuff... still- i don't mind as he enjoyed himself! I just made sure i was watching to fish it out!!)
