I didn't even think for one second I was doing anything wrong until a friend was horrified that I still give my 3yr old DS milk morning and night. He has it in a beaker/cup not a bottle so I can't see what the problem is? Is this wrong?

Its the drink of choice for my boys (8 and nearly 5)
They have fruit juice at breakfast, but after school and mid-morning when at home, they choose warm or cold milk, they have water the rest of the time, or very dilute squash with a meal.
Out of interest - what does your friend give them to drink?

My nearly 3yo twins still have it morning and night!! In fact my 5yo does too so I don't see anything wrong with it ;)

Mine have milk with breakfast and at dinner/supper. I think that is perfectly normal!
-
I hope not! Both my kids have a cup of milk with their evening meal and will have a cup of milk to drink during the day if they ask for it. I can only think it would be a problem if that's all they were having and not eating a balanced diet (well, as balanced as possible for a toddler ;)) because of it.
I wonder why your friend thinks it's a problem - seems a bit of an odd opinion to me!

the only thing that I would add in is - no milk after brushing teeth.
-
yip mine to 5 and 2 and both have a cup of milk as soon as they wake up and then for afternoon snack, sometimes DS2 - 2 will ahve milk before he sleeps as well but brushes teeth afterwards

Great. Thanks for the reassurance. I think that she stopped giving it to her son because she thought he was getting too big!! My DS is far from big and is a very lean little thing so can't see it a problem either. He has become a bit fussy with his meals which is probably no different to most toddlers but he does eat tons of fruit.

I sometimes have milk before bed. I'm 35. Is that horrifying? It's better for me than a nightcap lol!

LOL! Was just going to post that my DH has a cup of milk before bed every single night... he is 38 and is far from fat ;)

Same here and in fact we've gone back to giving H full fat - he's such a skinny min it's a great way of getting extra calories in. DP still drinks it - straight from the carton in the fridge if he thinks I won't see him.....grrrr
-
We do milk here too. And full fat milk will not make you fat (its the cake you eat with it that's the problem)
Lemonthyme - its only horrifying if there is no chocolate in it lol

I'll second that - a bit pointless really without the chocolate!!
-
I just have it naked, no chocolate (but I've just switched back from skimmed to semi skimmed). Be shocked, be very shocked.
-
Sounds like we all might perish from having milk ;) I agree though, chocolate is a must!

Hmmm. Kinda weird. What does your friend give her kids to drink? I always thought milk would be better than juice. We started DD on regular milk after age 1. She had no MPI or lactose problems, so no issue there.
-
Yeah - defo way more sugar and calories in juice.
-
Well definitely more sugar.
