Title: sucks fingers in between spoonfuls?quirk or concern?
Post by: *happy* on July 23, 2012, 20:24:41 pm
im starting wk 3 of solids with my 6mo...doing very well really, except that she sucks her fingers in between spoonfuls...it's almost a kneejerk reaction.....if i hold the hand she usually sucks, she has now started putting the other one in (which she never does at any other time of the day)....things are obviously VERY messy at mealtimes which i dont mind, but i'd hate it to interfere with normal eating down the line.she loves t ochew the spoon & grab it from me.very rarely do i manage the "proper" spoon-into-the-open-mouth-close-mouth-swallow sequence though.... ;) it's usually a case of her grabbing the spoon & shoving it into her mouth & having a good old munch on it!

no advice but just wanted to say you are not alone, my friend's DD sucks her thumb in between every bite of solid food. (she's 8 months now):)

I honestly don't remember (she's 7 now and she doesn't do it anymore...) - probably until she started self feeding and needed her hands.

My DS does it too!
Since he began solids...he's 13mo now and he still does it at times...but since there's so much food he's eating with his hands now I think it's just part of the experience...
In my opinion there's nothing to worry about, I suppose it's part of exploring textures and tastes!!

one of mine did it for about a month - as soon as they figured out that the belly got full faster if they kept their hands out of the way it was over :):)

it is totally normal as far as i know.  :)

it seems like that sometimes!!!she ends up with more food on her fingers than on the spoon so i guess it only makes sense that she wants to put her fingers in!

that's great to know!my mind is at ease so!should i hold one hand while i feeding her or just let her off?!
