Title: Little bit of blood, food intolerance in BF baby?
Post by: blondie91582 on August 20, 2012, 19:46:45 pm
My LO is 4 1/2 months old. He's had issues with reflux, fussiness & gas since about 6 weeks. I initially cut out dairy & saw some improvements, but that wasn't enough. Now I've also cut out eggs & soy. He's doing much better, but he still keeps having a little bit of blood in his poop. It's been over a month since I've been off of all 3 things. I pretty much eat the same 15 or so things all the time because I know they don't have any of those 3 things in them. Every time I've cut something out, I tend to eat more of other things & find out he has issues with them (ex, no dairy, more eggs, no eggs, more soy, once I took out all of those- more wheat, corn, peanut butter, almond milk...). I've been keeping a food journal & writing down when he has diarrhea or blood in his poop, but since I don't know how long it takes for my food to get into my milk & be fed to him, I'm not sure what might be causing the problem. I did just notice that my DHA supplement has "contains products derived from soy" on it. I've been taking that since I was pregnant though & the blood is a new thing. It's only been every now & then, but recently it's been happening more often. I'm not sure what I should do at this point, but if I cut out wheat, peanut butter, almonds or corn, that's the majority of what I eat now.

Oh, I did also just start eating spaghetti once a day because it's easy to make ahead of time & heat up when I'm busy with LO. Are tomatoes a common problem for babies?

Hi there, were you eating wheat every day before you started eating the spaghetti so much? It could be the wheat I guess. Tomatoes are quite acidic and so it can be fairly common for LOs to react to them, although through your BM is more unusual I think.

Yes, I've been having a sandwich or 2 every day since I can't eat a lot else. The pasta in the spaghetti is whole wheat though. Maybe it just bothers him if I have too much wheat but not if it's just a bit? He's been fine all day today... maybe it was just a random thing.
