Pages not loading the first time and unable to see some pictures. I keep having to press refresh :-\ anyone else?
-
I do keep getting a fatal error when clicking on the new icon at the end of the subject title. I press back and then click it again and it is fine.
-
Often pages loading to a blank page. If I refresh I get the page I was looking for
-
Oh yes, same as Amanda. I thought that was my phone not loading fully.
-
I get blank pages and fatal errors at random times too - I go back, click again or refresh and it's usually ok again!
Laura
-
Blank pages here too, the past 2-3 days.
-
I've been getting these too, but I figured it was my phone.
I split it into a new topic as I don't think it's related to the upgrade per-se.
I'll be keeping an eye on it to work out what it is.
Thanks ladies :)

If its any help, it's happening on my totally standard laptop with Windows operating systems.
-
Yep, and my PC.
-
I don't BW on my phone, so it's laptop - Linux OS running Firefox (have just had to downgrade from most recent version as it kept crashing, but was doing the same on most recent version too)
-
I have them, too. The error message seems to point towards system memory or capacity issues?
-
it is happening to me a LOT this morning.... either out of memory or some other fatal error.
-
"Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 2359296) (tried to allocate 311296 bytes) in /home/thebabyw/public_html/smf/Sources/Load.php on line 1267"
And the fail to connect please try again errors - lots in the last 5 minutes, but ok earlier
-
I have restarted the database for now to see if that helps.
The error message seems to point towards system memory or capacity issues?
Indeed it does, it's a large forum. The database consumes more memory over time. Lets see if this helps for now...

Still got 2 blank screens. Do you get error messages on the server when it happens? I wonder if it is time dependent.
-
Damn :(
It's something else then. I will have to pay more attention next time it happens to me to see if I can diagnose what's going on. Thanks for the info :)
-
You're welcome Tom ;) You know how we like to keep you on your toes!
-
I just got the fatal error on my phone...
-
I got out of resources error.
Tom, is it possible that there might be some old archives or backups for the preparation of the upgrade sitting on the server that can be purged for extra space?
-
It's not a disk space issue, it's memory :(
-
are there extra processes that don't need to be running there from the old system? Can you run some diagnostics to see what is holding up the memory? :(
-
There are lots of processes that are overhead from the webhost company. TBH, moving hosts will be something we will investigate one day as the way they virtualise the system has often let to troubles.
Other than that though, MySql and all the HTTP connections (each with its own php process) are the main culprits. There is nothing in that regard remaining from the old version. I will likely need to do some more MySql & php tuning.
-
Hate to say it Tom but I had another blank page just now.... Hadn't had any for a while.
-
Almost every other page atm.
-
I'm having htis problem a lot again at the mo... maybe it's just me?!
-
No it is not. I am getting it too. It's a bit odd.
So I have enabled something today that might give me more insight next time it happens, except of course, it hasn't happened since lol.
It's an odd one for sure, and something I have not seen before in my career... (In that the server does not show any errors, the logs show that it sent the page, yet the browser shows nothing. NOTHING... *huh*.. )
-
I like to keep you on your toes Tom ;)
-
I'm also getting much longer load times than usual. Given that we just upgraded our Firefox and are actually current now, that's kind of.... odd.
-
I get this too - thought that it was just iPad bugs, but evidently not.
Not sure if it is related, but I also find that when I click on the 'new' button it loads to 3-4 posts back rather than the latest post. Anyone else?
-
Right, I think I am homing in on the cause of the blank pages and visible errors. Need to do some learning first though :)
-
If anyone is around, did it just get quicker in the last minute or so?
-
Dunno about the last minute or so from your post, but it's quicker now than it was earlier for me.
-
Thanks Deb.
So if anyone gets a blank page or error today, please let me know in this thread.
Thanks,
-
Shortly after I posted last night I did get one or two slow pages in the 5 minutes or so I was logged in but I'm not getting as many "waiting for....." messages as I had been. :)
-
Haven't so far, and yesterday I was getting loads.
-
Thanks, I think that confirms my thoughts.
If anyone is interested, Apache is leaking memory - it happens. Freaky thing is that the web host company had rebuilt Apache 3 days before the forum upgrade and it had not been restarted since then. This had the effect of making it look like the forum upgrade did it.
Coincidence is a huge thing in IT :)
-
LOl. Great thanks for this. xo
-
Thanks for fixing it :)
-
Laura, every time I see you post in here I panic, thinking it has happened again lol :)
(That doesn't mean don't post, it's just funny is all)
-
Well done, Tom. Hopefully that's sorted it now :)
-
Made you look ;) :P
-
I haven't had any for a few days now too. Thanks, Tom!

I had that a little while ago, Clare, but it hasn't happened recently. It was just a couple days like that, I think. :-\
-
Yes, I'd noticed that as well. I was chalking it up to reading sometimes on my Kindle and maybe the differences in how BW "registered" on it maybe, but it's not just me then.
And BTW, this reply page took a good long while to load - 10 seconds on a super-speedy laptop! BW isn't allowed to have anything to do with any leaky memory but our own! LOL
