Ok- so reassure me- Toddlers are meant to be interested in doing THE SAME THING over and over all day pretty much aren't they? So say they really like putting bits and bobs in a big pot and stirring with various implements- that's ok? He does do SOME other things- but current;y the stirring is a favourite.. that's just normal toddler stuff right?

Yep totally normal ;D. Next it will be in put them in/ take them out phase ;)

Yes! Hehe that is how they learn and make those nerve connections by repeating things a million times till they are ready to move on to the next skills! :D

Haha yes. DS spent about 6 months of his life living in a cupboard. Seriously, all day he would go and sit in the cupboard, close the door, open the door, get out, close the door, open the door, etc...ALL. DAY. LONG. I seriously contemplated if something was wrong with him but I am happy to report he now has a life outside the cupboard! :P

hehe it is fascinating what LOs learn from seemingly one thing. Maybe, how the pieces move, how the stirrer moves, how the stuff gets all mixed up while some remains stubborn :P, and later when he mixes fluids, colours change, texture might change, some things disappears, etc, etc....

and makes me reflect often OFTEN how much the kids i see with physical disabilities are missing out- and how much we have to make up for- as they don't get these same sorts of experiences!

We have such a cupboard ;) it is good. The all day long thing doesn't happen here - maybe 30min before he starts 'cooking' marbles, lids, apples (having climbed onto the table to get them), pens and other bits and bobs... takes them to one tile, puts the lid on and hums then beeps, moves the pot to another tile, stirs and puts it back on the previous tile and hums again, etc. til he decides its cooked. Then I get to taste 'eat, Mummy, eat' ;D

That reminds me how DS used to turn the door handle a hundred times every time he had to go to the toilet or bathroom!! that just took too long as it became part of the bt routine!!! Then he had to turn the lock and locked himself in because it was quite stiff. He got scared and stopped doing it :P
posting the same time as you. Yeah... i just took on some training which addresses that issue about how important movement is to learning/brain development. It covers also some issues with speech and hearing. You might find it interesting, too. How is your new job btw, or am I not allowed to be OT? :P

LOL- One OT sentence is allowed i'm sure- I'm really loving the new job! I've only been offically in it for about 3 weeks- but am really enjoying it so far!

Alon takes the tea towels from the kitchen, spreads them on the floor, picks them up, spreads again, picks them up, spreads again... He can do that so LONG. You can imagine how many tea towels I need to wash ;)

I used to sit and brainstorm what I could get to satisfy DS's fill and dump obsession. All day long, fill a box with a big collection of the same items then tip it out, then fill it, then tip it out.

Hamish keeps asking for more and more things to 'stir' with.. he can see the utensil pot in the kitchen and keeps asking!! I must stir EVERYTHING!!

Sounds like some real cooking would be a big hit hey?
DS made banana sultana sugar free mini muffins yesterday. He's just come shouting, 'Muma, one more cake, I want more cake'. Sure - fill your boots it's fruit flour and eggs have as many as you want!
...he's on his third ::)

I know!! Santa is bringing a play kitchen.. I think I'll have to think of how to get him to the kitchen counter... The bench mixer was the best thing ever seen!

I started DS cooking on his little table (usually in the living room but took it through to the kitchen for a cooking session) and then up onto a chair at the kitchen unit. Now when I ask if he wants to cook he goes and drags a dining chair into the kitchen and positions it in 'his' cooking place at the unit. Have to be careful of what he can reach and keep reminding him not to fall off though.

Totally normal, though I wish my Z liked stirring...he has to throw stones over and over and over ::)
