Title: refusing lunch
Post by: squabog on January 06, 2013, 12:49:29 pm
Hi all !

my son is 7.5 mths and his refusal to be spoon fed his lunch is driving me nuts  :( He will allow me to spoonfeed
him is breakfast and dinner but lunch time has become a real struggle.  he will finger feed biscotti and fruit but
the lovingly prepared balanced lunches i prepare see the bin.

Any words of advise for me?

Thanks  :)

Skip spoonfeeding at lunch and stick to finger foods if that's what he wants.  No sense wasting food if they won't eat it.  ;)  Sometimes if you stop for a little bit and then try again they gain more interest.

How about offering him more different finger foods? My little girl has never been spoonfed, she just wasn't interested, only in feeding herself. So from six months old she had cooked spears of broccoli, banana, carrots, steamed apple, ripe pear, strips of omelette, bits of meat she could suck on, fingers of toast etc

I agree with pps to skip spoon feeding at lunch.  I never spoon fed either.
If you have lots of lovingly prepared purees you could use them as a spread on toast/pitta/tortilla/naan bread cut into fingers for LO to pick up himself.  Or you could mix through pasta twists for LO to pick up.  That way the range of veg etc that you have prepared is still part of the meal.  Or use it in a pancake mix for another variety of healthy finger food.
