She HATES the taste, and she won't take a bottle.
Any tips ? I smelled it and it smells so bad, like fish. :-X
-
Hi hun...
She won't take a bottle at all? Has she been EBF until now?
Baby is right, it is foul ;) But there are a few things we can try...
-
Hi Kara, yes EBF...will not take a bottle no matter how hard I try. I've read the links but nothings worked thus far.
Now to incorporate the new formula..even trickier! I've heard to add pure vanilla to the bottle?
-
I've heard to add pure vanilla to the bottle?
I've heard that one too ;)
Are you transitioning from EBF to bottle with the hypo formula to treat a milk protein issue? Or are you just supplementing with it and doing an elimination diet yourself?
-
We used a small drop of golden syrup added to the bottle to get Ds2 to take neocate (also revolting) then I just stopped it after about 3/4 days ;) you can also add maple syrup and s,e people add icing sugar but I didn't like that idea. :-\
-
Hi Kara...I'm doing an elim diet but want her to get used to hypo formula for when I go back to work. Docs are unable to find a source for her constant irritability thus they suggested I do an ED,
Hmm, I'll try maple syrup perhaps, ur right, icing sugar seems a bit too drastic lol!
-
We used some brown sugar, it only took a few days to wean the sugar to pure milk.
-
What kind of formula were you using?
-
Nutramigen
-
Sounds good! Ill give it a go , something should work!
-
The brown sugar/golden syrup will help with a bit of constipation that may happen with the move to formula as well :)
Good luck hun - let us know if she is still refusing in a couple of days.
-
Thx...I just tried syrup, she pushed it so hard away from her. I see a big battle ahead :(
-
Alright, do you have a pump?
We might have to be really sneaky with her... BM in the bottle first to get her used to taking it... then slowly mix the BM with the formula...
-
Yes I pump...ok I will try that and let u know how it goes!
-
You could try it really cold (like a milkshake) or as warm as hot chocolate. My sister's a neonatal nurse and she said the different temp helps some lo's....my dd refused it though but on retrospect I should've added something sweet as it's so horrible :-\ :-X.
-
Thanks Claire! Ill try different temps!
-
For sure try it much warmer - if she is generally BF, she is used to milk being quite warm :)
-
T didn't mind the temp when we switched BUT he did need the right teat AND to be quite hungry but drowsy to take it YK? - just a few more factors to bare in mind ;) :-*
