Title: 8 MO not wanting to eat
Post by: Anmarnad on February 26, 2013, 20:38:33 pm
My DD is 8 months old. We have started solids (with quite some hickups) at 6 months. In general she has been eating reasonably well. But I got a little worried over the last couple of days. She is in the day care and I leave a bottle of ebm for her. Over the last couple of days she has refuses to drink it all (even though normally she would empty it completely), she refuses to eat bread and she has absolutely no appetite for fruits at all. So she only wants to have a small breakfast (cereal with apple in it - I need to smuggle some fruit into her somehow) and a really nice dinner (veggies + meat - she likes it a lot and eats a good portion). I will go have her weight checked in a couple of weeks just to be sure. But do you perhaps have an advice for what to do? I think she is teething, but she has been teething for the last month or so and she was able to eat despite the discomfort. Can anybody explain this general food strike? is this normal?

I would be willing to bet it's teething related.  Is she still having a BF in the morning and one or two once you get home with her in the evening?

She gets her BF in the morning, one in the day care (+ one bottle of EBM for the midmorning feed - that's the one she doesn't want to finish all of a sudden), one before bed in the evening, and we're still working on dropping her DF - so still gets a bit of EBM at 22:15. But I don't know how much she actually drinks from me. That one 6 oz bottle in the day care was always my way of making sure she gets enough.
But OK then, I wont worry and hope for some break in the teething ( she has been cutting 4 teeth at the same time - I hope now its really the last one for a while). But then how long should I wait?

If she is still nursing a few times, I wouldn't worry too much to be honest.  Maybe allow a bit more of a DF to compensate for the time being?
