Title: 5 months 20 oz!
Post by: MeAndVee on March 04, 2013, 19:12:56 pm
DS2 has been on 4 hour EASY for a couple weeks now so he is down to 5 bottles including a DF. Can't drop the DF! He only drinks 20 oz - 4 oz in each bottle!! I can't figure out why or how to get him to drink more. He has been steadily gaining 2 lbs a month since birth and is at 15 lbs now. Just 20 oz doesn't seem like  nearly enough! He's happy and all smiles. Sleeping good for naps and night. Has chubby thighs and cheeks so just by looking at him you wouldn't think he is drinking such a measly amount of milk. 20 oz! Help!

Has he always had a low volume?  Which formula is he drinking?

Does he drain bottles?

He is on Infamil Gentle ease. Sometimes he drinks it all sometimes not. When he does finish I will offer more and sometimes he'll take another ounce or so. And yes he has always been on the low end. And of course now he has a cold and drinking even less!!! Actually tried giving solids last week but he would drink even less milk so we nixed that idea! Am I just being a big ol worry wart? He is meeting all his milestones and is a very happy boy.

For sure no solids with this volume.

I would increase each bottle to 6 ozs and see if he takes more.. draining a 4 oz bottle then waiting for more could give him a chance to feel full enough and not take much more when he may have if he hadn't waited.

Most bubs will take 6-8 ozs per feed at 5 months on a 4 hr EASY.  Average would be 28-32 ozs per day.

Will give that a try. He was feeling much better this evening so hopefully tomorrow we'll get back on track.

Good thing he is on the mend... nothing worse than a sick bubs!
