Title: Is there a growth spurt at 7 months
Post by: Eva's Mummy on March 21, 2013, 09:21:43 am
Is there a growth spurt at 7 months. The last few days my LO wants a bottle every 3 hours, when i wait the 4 as usual she just cries and cries and she has been taking alot more of her bottle aswell.

Not generally a growth spurt now but all LOs are different!   is she teething really badly?  My LO often wanted more bottles when her teeth were bad... comfort feeding for sure.

Well her first 2 have cut through but they re not right through so it might well be that. Is it ok just to give her the extra then?

Absolutely... I always thought of it like this: formula is a complete food, if she is only gonna want one thing, it's the best option :)

Silly kidlet keeping momma confused!  She is a bit young to drop to 3 bottles yet... does she still have a DF?  How is she with solids?

No we stopped the DF as she was only taking 3oz she still STTN without it. She has 3 solid meals a day, shw would eat more but i don't like to give her too much so she will take her bottles which has been working until now x

Three meals a day is pretty ambitious for 7 months.. many LOs aren't ready for a third meal until closer to 9/10 months or their milk intake will suffer.. that could be your issue.

What does her day look like in terms of eating now?  Bottles when and how much?  and what and how much for solids?

6:30 Wake up, 7:00 Bottle (7oz), 8:00 Breakfast porridge with fruit puree (2oz), 11:00 bottle (2-3oz), 12:00 lunch 1oz veg & 1oz meat, 15:00 bottle (3-4oz), 16:30 dinner 1oz veg & 1oz meat or pasta (we occasionaly miss dinner if we are out in which case i will give her a wee yoghurt), 18:30 bedtime bottle (7oz)

Looks to me that the solids are interfering with milk intake hun.. it's not a large amount, but things like meat will keep her full for a while and she won't want the milk.  That said, she has a fantastic balance of foods!  Well done momma!

I would maybe just try shifting the milk around a bit... maybe reduce her first bottle to 5 ozs and see if she adds a bit to each of her mid day bottles...

We really do want to keep her up over 24 ozs still... if she won't have it with the two mid day bottles, we might be better to shift her to 3 bottles of 8 ozs each....

Hi,

Don't know if its too soon to tell but this is the 3rd day and she is still just taking 3-4oz of her 2nd and 3rd bottles?

Hmm, at this age, I would expect a change fairly quickly...

I do wonder if she is better to move to 3 bottles of 8 ozs each... will she take an 8 oz bottle?

She will take 8oz at BT and when she was about 5 months she took 8oz bottles all the time so i guess so if she is more hungry.

So if we got to 3 x 8oz bottles how do i do it?

Can i get a wee bit of help our day goes a bit like this.

Wake 6:30
E       7:00 Bottle
E       8:00 Breakfast
S       9:45 - 11:00
E       11:00 Bottle
E       12:00 Lunch
S       14:15 - 15:25
E       15:30 Bottle
E       17:00 Dinner
S       Bedtime bottle and asleep for 18:30

So when sould i move the bottles and solids to? also what happens if she has a short am nap so her pm nap becomes really quite early, would she then get her 2nd bottle after her pm nap?

In this case, I would move bottle to before PM nap and offer solids lunch when she wakes up.

Otherwise, it would go like this:

Wake 6:30
E       7:00 Bottle 8 ozs
E       8:00 Breakfast    ** may have to push back a bit with bigger bottle in AM)
S       9:45 - 11:00
E       11:00 Bottle **this may then move closer to 1130/12noon with AM solids being pushed out
E       12:00 Lunch
S       14:15 - 15:25  ** offer second bottle at 145/2pm 8ozs again
E       17:00 Dinner  ** remains the same unless she is uber starving, could pull ahead to 430ish if needed
S       Bedtime bottle and asleep for 18:30 ** offer 8 ozs again

How does that look?

Wake 6:30
E       7:00 8oz Bottle
E       8:30/9:00 Breakfast
S       9:45 - 11:00
E       11:30/12:00 Lunch
E       13:45/14:00 8oz Bottle
S       14:15 -15:25
E       16:30/17:00 Dinner
S       8oz bedtime bottle and sleep

Yeah that looks good thanks Kara, will it take a while for her to get used to it?

A couple days at most if it is a good fit... my DD always did so much better when I moved things around as I was generally doing it cause her eating was all strange!

Just to let you know i've not changed it yet. She is teething (3 teeth) really badly at the moment so everything seems to be out the window. She only slept for a total of 1 hour during the day yesterday and woke every 30 mins during the night until 10, then again at 4:40 for 45mins so i'm thinking it might be best to wait until she is back in some sort of routine. Do you think this is best or does it not really matter for this?

Hi

I'm getting a bit lost with fitting 3 bottles in. This is her day so far today.

Wake   7:07
E   8:15   (5oz)
E   9:15   Breakfast
A   3hrs 23mins
S   10:30 - 12:15 and still sleeping

So would she still get lunch when she wakes and then a bottle before her second nap or earlier than that as her nap wont be until around 15:50 that seems a long time to go with a bottle?

Bottle #2 would be just before 2nd nap (or up to 30 mins before)... you don't want it too close to lunch or she won't be interested.

That said, she doesn't have her first bottle until she has been awake for an hour in the AM?  Does she still have a NF?  If so, we need to drop that to ensure she wants that first bottle when she wakes.

And, we do want each one to be 8ozs as well.

She has a NF that day as she was awake teething from 1:30 - 3:30 but usually she doesn't. I normally feed her 30mins after she wakes as she won't take it straight away. I offer an 8oz bottle but she has only been taking 4-5oz, then she wil take 7-8oz for her 2nd bottle and 6-7oz for her BT bottle.

For some reason she just doesn't seem to want her morning one?

I am moving onto set naps at 10 and 2:30 as she is going to nursery soon and they do breakfast at 9:30, lunch at 11:30, snack at 3

So i assume my day will look a bit like this.

W 6:00 hopefully 6:30
E  7:00 (Bottle)
E  9:30 Breakfast
S 10:00 -
E 11:30 Lunch
E 14:00 (Bottle)
S 14:30 -
E 15:00 Snack (she will hopefully sleep through this)
E 17:00 Dinner
S 18:30 BT bottle

Do you think that looks ok or do i need a bit if jiggling?

I think it looks great!  Can you sneak a little more into her with breakfast?  Maybe offer a couple ounces in a sippy with her meal?

She took a little bit out of her sippy cup this morning so hopefully that will increase a bit, i do use formula in her cereal so she gets another wee bit there too.

Well today was my first nap of set naps. I was planning on giving the second bottle at 14:00 but she was crying her wee eyes out at 13:20 hungry!
