Title: How much to start
Post by: Dreambaby08 on May 13, 2013, 03:50:29 am
I'm starting 6 mos lo on rice cereal . Tracy says to start with 1-2 tsp at breakfast. Does she refer to 1-2 tsp of dry cereal mixed with additional formula to desired consistency? The cereal box says to mix 1 tb cereal with 4-5 tb formula. Do I do that? And water I choose whatever amnt I want so the thickness is ok?

With mine, I found that they never took very much from the beginning anyway, so I'd mix just a little bit of rice cereal with some formula so it was very runny and then thicken it up gradually.  I wouldn't worry about the amounts either at this point, though I suspect she meant 1-2 tsp of the dried stuff mixed with however much formula.  FWIW, there are a lot of places that are starting to recommend starting with fruits and veggies (pear, sweet potato, avocados, bananas are all good first foods) since rice cereal is really just a simple carb and doesn't have much in it in the way of nutrition.  With my ds, we skipped the cereals entirely.
