Title: Need help introducing Solids
Post by: Kelcy on July 06, 2013, 01:30:27 am
My LO is more than ready to begin solids, our pediatrician advised me to begin solids at our 4 month checkup but I've waited until he reached 5 mos. I've started giving him 1/2 oz. of rice cereal in 3-4 oz. of breast milk in a bottle at night and then breast feeding him afterwards. I feel like he is getting impatient with breastfeeding/bottle, he is constantly trying to grab at our food and is very aware of what we are eating and drinking.
I'm just not sure exactly how to start the transition. If I start a solid do I need to feed him one every day, or more than one even? And does it need to be after the same feeding?

Here's our feeding schedule right now, my LO is 5.5 mos old.

6 am- breastfeed
9:30 am- breastfeed/or breastmilk in bottle (if at sitter)
1:00 pm-breastfeed
4:30 pm-breastfeed
7:30 pm- Rice cereal with breastmilk and breastfeed

Hi Kelcy!
We started solids at 4mo and I remember that at first it was the same fruit for a whole week, just for one of the meals.
For example, pureed pear for breakfast during a week.  That way you can see if there's any weird reaction to a specific food.

I've heard some other moms try the same food for 3 days, that should be enough to tell if the baby accepts it well.
