Title: Wind-down activity for a grumpy toddler
Post by: anna* on August 01, 2013, 12:14:23 pm
LOVED it. Make some home-made playdough (which really does take all of two minutes) and added a few drops of lavender essential oil. It was really quite funny. Stan and Audrey were both grumpy and antagonising each other, I called them over to the table and gave them a gob of dough each (plus some chopsticks, tooth picks, etc) and gentle wafts of lavender started to come out of the dough. I swear within minutes they were both quiet, calm, engrossed in what they were doing.

OK it only lasted 15 minutes but by then the cycle of grumps was broken and it was time for Audrey's bath!

Fabulous idea.
one to remember for exam revision years from now too. A scent per subject, and play dough especially for kinesthetic learners, so the info, movement and scent all connect together in the brain. Then at exam time, use the same scent to take in to the exam which unlocks the information. :)
