Title: Post-nursery supper ideas
Post by: cath~ on August 08, 2013, 13:13:04 pm
Thinking ahead a bit here, but L will be starting nursery three days/week from
September and on those days will have dinner/tea a good hour earlier than she is used to (they serve it at 4pm at nursery).
So I'm thinking of offering her something small for supper when she gets home, around 6ish (will also be nice rather than diving straight into BT when we get in).

I mentioned this to L the other day and she said she'd like yoghurt.  I also thought about rice pudding (I make in advance and freeze small portions so just needs warming up on day).

Does anyone have any other ideas for small suppers which are very quick to get on the table (like 5-10 mins max)?

We do cold tea for DS in the evenings most days. So it would be things like y few slices of cold turkey or chicken or ham, some veggies and fruit, cubes of cheese, a crisp bread, yogurt, applesauce, etc.

We used to do yoghurt and fruit.  OR rice cakes and a beaker of milk.  Nothing too heavy, but yes, they needed something to keep them going until breakfast.

Yes we do the same - beaker of milk, some fruit, breadsticks, dried fruit, yoghurt or something along those lines.  Would love some more exciting ideas though!

i have two foolproof recipes i use-not sure if i can mention a name?!-for supper time here....one is a carrot & cheese muffin & the other a ham&cheese tart....both easily made & frozen & easy for DD to munch on!!!! (i should probably admit that i haven't actually tried either but DD loves them!!!)

We do peanut butter on toast, rice pudding and fruit, bananas and custard, potato cakes with a little cheese on them, crumpets, mini omelette all easy toast or micro foods really.

We tried snack stuff like crackers, cheese etc but DS is just not interested. Rice pudding all the way here!

Same as Mashi really. Or toast or porridge on some nights. Yoghurt if he hasn't already had one at nursery. Sandwich?

Porridge every night here. Or if it's really late a cereal bar.

Thanks for the ideas everyone :). I especially like the savoury muffin plan - i think that would go down really well!

happy - I make my own using the Annabel Karmel recipe. Dead easy:

beans on toast is always a fave here, eggy bread, toasted cheese and ham sambos, small bowls of pasta (I freeze sauces in tiny one/two portion bags for easy prep in the evening if I defrost in the am). Soups are also very popular with my two in the winter....a nice big bowl of soup to warm them at 6/7pm before bed. Again, we make in bulk and freeze, defrost gradually over the day x

I do have a couple of her books so will have to check if it's in there. Will let you know if not! Thanks

Like the soup idea but it takes ages for L to eat it. I think she'll be pretty tired so don't want to delay BT if I can help it so will try to do stuff that's quick to prepare AND quick for her to eat.
