Title: 7.5 mo - more mobility/less milk in the day causing nws?
Post by: CoraDora on August 09, 2013, 09:13:36 am
I'll try to be succinct - really need some advice/a plan.

7.5mo dd2 is having more and more nws and I have been dealing with them by bf her, most of the time. It wasn't too much of an issue before as she wasn't waking all that much, but now it's getting too much. I should also add that she is still in our room and I feel we are disturbing her perhaps.

I feel like we are in a bit of a vicious cycle - I have been feeding her during her nws (they don't always feel like big feeds) and then she doesn't want her feeds in the day, so then I don't want to deny her feeds at night. I guess I need to decide when to feed her/when not to feed her at night - any advice on this?

And then during the other nws, I should pupd?

She is at the stage where she can get on all fours, but not crawling at the mo. She can also go from all fours to sitting. She is also rolling over on to her back and waking up (she's a tummy sleeper).

I want to try tonight, so any advice would be great.

I think  the advice is to kind of follow your EASY - so if she is on 4 hours then only feed her every 4 hours max during the night. What else does she respond to that you could use to get her back to sleep? Aim for as little intervention as possible, so that you can back off asap and she can learn to have less NWs. Does she settle herself independently at other times?

It's normal that increased movement can cause NWs, either through hunger or through the developmental leap.

Agree with pp.  babies this age may still take 1-2 night feeds which would fit with a 4 hr+ easy.  What does her routine look like?  Also, how much solid food is she eating?

I would do pd if she's sitting up or on all fours.  Try to settle as much as possible in her crib but pick her up if she's really upset or unlikely to calm down unless you pu.  During the day, try not to bf more frequently than 4 hrs so that she does take a good feed.  Also give her plenty of time to practice crawling so that she's less inclined to do this during the night!

Thanks for your replies.

I've been sticking to approx 4 hourly feeds and settling her if it's sooner and she seems to be waking 10pm-ish and 2am-ish so that's fine at the mo.

My prob is pupd - I put her in her cot (on her tummy) but she instantly goes on all fours and then to sitting position, and then pulls herself to stand on the cot bar. She hasn't learnt to go back down voluntarily yet and she isn't upset when she's doing this. If I put her back down on her tummy and lay my hand on her back, she will start to self settle, but I am aware that this probably isn't helping long term?

Glad shes waking less for feeds.

Actually I used to do something similar with my DS.  I would place my hands on his legs and chest and let him drift off.  He's fine now for sleeping.  I would however let her practice standing and sitting back down in her crib during the day.
