Title: Oatmeal
Post by: goldmom on September 12, 2013, 16:40:41 pm
I want to start offering my DD (almost 7 months) some baby oatmeal. She isn't on formula, and I don't pump enough to mix it with EBM. Would it be ok to serve it with water. DS took his with formula and didn't like it with just water. Would this be much less nutritious? What temperature should it be?

Any suggestions?

Uk guidance is you can use cow's milk in cereals and cooking from 6 months, just not as a drink until 1. It was much easier than using formula (and cheaper!).

Hm, I thought no cow's milk till 1. Ok, maybe I will try that and hopefully she will like it.

US recommendation is no cows milk til 1 yr.  check with your pediatrician.  You could also use a little formula unless you are against that...

I cook oatmeal/porridge with water. I also add a little bit of prune juice (home made) to help with constipation. We've just started solids recently and mine only has 1-2 teaspoons at a time.

We used formula with oatmeal and I think either puréed fruit or chopped berries
