Title: Reintroducing Dairy ... how? Help?
Post by: stephanne2 on October 08, 2013, 01:13:07 am
LO was diagnosed with MSPI at 4 weeks and I began an elimination diet immediately (LO is EBF).  At 6MO, we re-introduced soy, she was tested and given the all clear, but I really don't eat that much soy anymore anyway (now that I know more about it!)

So now all that remains is dairy - LO is now 11MO.  I have NO IDEA how to re-introduce dairy and upon googling, found 300,000 different methods/theories.  So, I'm a little overwhelmed/discouraged here because I have no idea where to start (and Dr. not much help).  Can someone with a similar situation explain how to go about re-introducing dairy?  Do I start with just my diet? Or do I start with giving her table foods with milk cooked in them, then progress to foods that are actually dairy, etc, etc?

And most importantly... because our MSPI was only discovered because LO had blood in her stool which prompted the test indicating the irritation/reaction to dairy had already "eaten" up her insides, I'm a little worried that there might be a reaction to dairy again that I won't notice until it's too late (again).  How do you not confuse it for general fussiness or teething pain, etc, etc?  LO is inexplicably fussy from time to time and has ZERO teeth, so teething is imminent.

Planning ahead for weaning and re-introducing dairy slowly over the next 4-6 weeks and just hoping to get a "plan" in place!

TIA!

Hi there, are think there are 2 schools of thought with re-introducing dairy - one is 2 introduce slowly and watch for reactions (is through your milk) and the other is to just go for it.

I think in your situation it is going to be hard as you cannot see the symptoms. With Olly he would be sick or get eczema quickly if he reacted so it was easier to test.

How do you not confuse it for general fussiness or teething pain, etc, etc?

I don't think you can. This is one of the hardest parts of it all, reintroducing foods often comes hand in hand with teething, developmental leaps and all the other things that make ANY LO grumpy and grizzly.

Sorry I haven't been much help  :P

Hun do you have a dietitian or dr/pead someone who can help you do this?
I 'think' there are some dairy products that are 'less' likely to cause a reaction. Maybe yogurt and cheese? :-\
