Title: 9 wk old wakes up 3 times
Post by: Frostygrrl on January 08, 2014, 23:57:26 pm
Hi my 9 wk old wakes up 3 times. Should I try extend to two or she is pretty normal.

Her latest routine, which started on Monday is :

7.15 - 7.45 feed
7.45 - 8.00 bath
8.00 - 8.30 feed / read bedtime story
8.30 - 8.35 wind down
8.35 - 8.45 rock to drowsy state. Typically she just zonks out.
8.45 sleep

Dream feed 11.00 - 11.30

1st nw 1.30 - 3.00
2nd nw 4.30 - 5.30
3rd nw 6.30

I think her natural waking pattern is 6.30

How can I get her to drop early feed and wake 3.30 - 4.00. Is she capable? Can I stretch her natural waking time closer to 7.30am? How?

I've extended my breast feed to 12 min each side. Will try do left right left right to increase capacity. She has been falling asleep bf. Any ideas on waking her up. She does not respond to palm, foot, cheek stroking. She wakes up if I start undress her. Is this only way?

Hi Hun for your wakings do you mean she's up from 1:30-3 or she just seems to wake at that time? Also I think her day is a little long. You want to at this age try and stick to a 12hr day. She's a little young to be dropping a feed right now. If she's taking that full feed then I wouldn't try and wean it. It looks as if she's doing about 3hrs at night between feedings which I think is normal especially being BF. Have yo uposted on the BF page to see what they think?

she normally wakes sometime during that time. Actually the last 3 nights she was wide awake and I had to resort to rocking her 2 hrs to get her to sleep. what gives? Ive been ;putting her to sleep 1hr earlier at 7.30pm. Dream feed is half hr earlier at 11pm not 11.30pm. earlier schedule shouldnt make a difference?!

She seems happy for about half hour then she starts fussying. Do you reckon its hunger then. Also how can I keep her awake during night time to feed on both breast?

Hi hun, at her age I would think it's hunger. You can alwasy try to resettle and if she goes back to sleep great but if she wakes up with in an hr usually it's hunger.  As for the BF question. Mine was wide awake and a FF so I"m not the greatest at helping in that area. I would pop on to the BF page and ask as there are some lovely ladies there with some great advice.
