The second half of our night is always quite unsettled with H waking quite frequently, seemingly because she needs to poop (usually not having done one since the previous afternoon). However, she never seems able to actually do a poop until later in the night or even (like today) after the morning WU. It's a pita really cos I know she can do longer stretches at night but these poop issues are messing it up!
Anyone else experienced this? I'd say it's been going on for about 3 wks now. Do they just grow out of this or is there anything I can do to help??
Thanks

Could you maybe do something like the 'tiger in the tree' hold during the later afternoon/evening, just to stimulate her digestive system with the warmth of your hands?
We had wind issues in the early morning at around this age. Grunting, squirming but not actually waking up. We called it 'fighting pirates' for some reason! He grew out of it, nothing we did helped.

Ooh - what's the tiger in the tree hold? Sounds like it might be worth a try.
Yeah, sometimes she is just grunting and wriggling around. Other times she wakes up and cries for me.
Do you remember at what age your DS grew out of it?

Try this:

Can't remember, was wracking my brains - it was rather a while ago now!

Thanks! I'll give it a go :)

Just wanted to say I have been using the tiger in the tree hold lots today and H really seem to like it :) calms her down a treat when she's getting fussy/uncomfortable. So will def be using it more. Thanks!
FXd it will help a bit tonight... We shall see.

Excellent, glad it helps! My nephew seemed to like it too.

Well, as much as she likes being held like that it doesn't seem to have helped our nights (bit of a long shot I guess). Yesterday, she even pooped a few times in th afternoon and before bed (which she hasn't done recently) so I was hopeful for a better night but no luck :(
She does one long stretch until about 11 (+/- 30 mins) then another until 2ish, then she's up every 1hr15 (pretty accurately). So I think after 2am she's only making it through one sleep cycle! I did manage to resettle her once last night with shh-pat, without a feed (she's not really hungry after 2am but if I give her a quick feed then she goes straight back down). However, I have to catch her wriggles early enough for that to work, otherwise it escalates to crying and I have to feed her to calm her again.
Any ideas or do I just have to wait this out? I try to resettle with shh-pat but usually end up feeding. Is this a really bad idea, setting up a bad habit? Or should I not worry too much at this age?

We have this too... I hope they outgrow it. For us it is generally from 3.30am.

I think I tried to extend DS until I knew he definitely needed a feed. It might not make a difference but I'd imagine that feeding might settle initially but then later make a windy tummy worse - especially if they are small feeds?

This is what I was worried about... Although if I can't settle her quite quickly then it always ends up with a feed cos she gets too worked up.
last night was much better :). She did a big poop in the motn during a feed and only woke during the whole night to feed (I think, every 3-4 hrs). Not cos she needed to poop. None of the silly single sleep cycles anyway :). FXd it continues...

Hooray! She's still so tiny and you are doing fabulously!

Hugs Catherine.
We had this with T though he ended up with other issues ::)
Instead of feeding, if she has a strong urgent o suck to settle you could try a dummy (I know you may not want too, some people don't) but it can help with aiding digestion and moving things along.

Hi Sara,
I'm not sure if she has a need to suck to settle or if it's the whole bf experience iyswim that she finds so calming. Not sure about introducing a dummy as I know they can bring about other problems to deal with.. So I think I'll see if we can get through it in other ways.
Last night was not quite so good. She was restless from about 3am BUT I managed to calm her with shh-pat on and off until she was actually hungry and didn't feed her until she had gone at least 2 -2.5hrs (she goes 2-3 hrs between feeds during the day ATM). So that was good :). Actually, when I did feed her I realised shed done a poop during that period which I'm pretty sure was what all the squirming, grunting and occasional cry was about.

Hugs, I still remember how exhausting it is. Your doing fab Hun.
After the NF does holding her upright against your shoulder for a bit help? - may help with wind/gas etc?
