Title: can there be too much milk for my almost 13 month old?
Post by: smburton on May 07, 2014, 00:41:03 am
My almost 13 month old has all of a sudden been drinking around 30oz a day of whole milk. Is that normal? And he's been having 3 sippy cups feeds. Do I need to start taking his morning, afternoon and bedtime sippy cup feed away soon? Thanks

Is he still eating solids normally? Growth spurt perhaps or just thirsty? I would definitely cut back if it continues though as that will not leave much room for food.

That is a lot of milk. I don't know where you are but the NHS here in the UK recommend 3 servings of dairy (including cheese and yogurt) a day for toddlers. A serving is 4-5oz. Looks like your LO is having at least double that in just milk. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/understanding-food-groups.aspx#close

Milk is really just a drink now so I would try to replace some of it with other drinks like water and solid snacks like fruit or crackers.
