Title: Struggling to fit solids into the day around milk feeds
Post by: Alexhas1 on July 10, 2014, 06:51:47 am
Hello,

Looking for some advice/reassurance that everything will eventually turn out ok...

6 month old has never been a good feeder, and I'm still struggling to get his first milk feed of the day down him so that I can then give him breakfast an hour or so later.

He typically wakes at 6am then won't have anything until 7ish when he has half his bottle (3oz) then might have another oz or two an hour later before his nap. Sometimes he doesn't want any more but then wakes up early from his nap hungry.

So with this being the usual start to the day, fitting in a breakfast becomes difficult.
Has anyone else experienced this and how would you go about fitting in two meals a day, never mind three!

Thanks,

Hi, don't worry too much about the solids at that age it's just a taste really. You could use done if the first feed with some porridge etc. It does get tricky fitting it all in but don't worth about other meals yet, at 6 months my DS just had a feed then a spoon or 2 of porridge or mushed banana it was never much, then a feed before nap.
how does the rest of your day look with feeds?

Mine was never hungry when he woke in the morning and always took small bottles too - he's a small kid so kind of to be expected.
I wouldn't worry about the solids, it does get crazy for while trying to fit it all in the day, I felt like all day was eat, but even eating is an activity full of new smells, textures etc so they are still experiencing the world whether they eat or not.
Maybe just offer a small taste of something at lunch time instead of breakfast? There's no rule to start with one meal or another.
