Dears,
Avocado and mango are on the list of veggies/fruits which can be introduced early. We are just turning 6mo old and we already tried baby rice, pumpkin, carrot, pear, apple, courgettes & potatoes. No digestive problems. All of these were cooked, no raw food.
Now I am thinking how to give DS avocado- should I cook it? Seems strange.
And mango: would like to steam-cook but don't know for how long should I do it.
Any help appreciated!

Avocado is fine raw. Either mashed and on a spoon or let baby eat big fingers of it for fingerfood! My ds loves it

Sorry not sure about mango. As long as it is soft and squishy and able to be smooshed by your tongue it should be an ok texture for fingerfood. Otherwise I don't see why raw ripe mango couldn't be pureed and spoon fed? I think baby would love to suck and chomp a piece as fingerfood though, give it a go (messy though lol)

DD loved mango from the start. I used to cut it up into tiny pieces and feed her it with a spoon. It's fine as finger food however it requires a bit of dexterity as it's quite slippy! No need to cook, but puréed is fine too.
Avocado goes really well mashed with banana too. Thought it sounded strange when I first heard about it but DD gobbled it up!

Thank you ladies! So i will just puree both without cooking.
I haven't tried finger food yet, will do it probably when DS will be sitting more steadily and when he will pass 6mo.

If you are trying mango as finger food (or any other slippery fruit/veg) you can crush some cereal and roll the slippery food in it to make it easier to hold on to.

Yeah, do wait til he can sit properly for the finger food. :)

Hi martii - H has has both raw (at 6 mos) either mashed or as finger food. I'd say go for it.
Oh, and avocado is nice mashed up with banana.

Great, once again thanks ladies!!!

One more thing - can I freeze fresh mango and avocado pure? Or should I use it quickly after usage? If in fringe how long could I keep it there, any suggestions?
I tried today with a tbsp and he liked mango:) but I have so much more out of one fruit that either we will freeze or I have to go for a mango lassi for myself:)))!

Seriously...three kids and this has never occured to me! E loves mango but hates touching it will try this.
Avocado we mash with banana and oatmeal or serve cut up in tiny chunks. I mix it in a lot of sauces too.
