Title: 6mo moaning at night
Post by: Adelheid on August 18, 2014, 06:30:54 am
My LO doesnt feed anymore at night but for the last 5 nights has woken up at some point and started moaning.
Most of the time I have not intervened bc it seems like he is just self soothing himself back to sleep.
However, I am just wondering if it perhaps time to move him out of our room? And if I do, do I then sleep with the baby monitor next to me or just leave the doors open?
His moaning is SO LOUD! I try to ignore him, but its impossible to sleep through it. I know my DH wakes up too and considering he has to get up early for work, I end up laying there worried and don't get any rest at all. On top of that, I'm always paranoid that he's either dressed too warm or too cold at night. I'm always cold and my DH is always hot, so we always debate what to put him in.

Baby goes to sleep by 7:30pm and wakes up around 7am. Daytime sleep is about 3h.

I'd doubt the moaning is because he needs to move out, more likely routine/teeth type issues, but it's totally fine at six months to move him out if that's what you want to do.  I moved DD out earlier than that (I do know SIDS recommendations are same room as parents until six months) and initially kept the monitor on.  However I found that disturbed my sleep even more as the monitor tends to amplify noises so even if she was just stirring or turning round I'd be awake.  So I switched it off fairly soon after moving her out and always woke and heard her anyway if she cried.  To an extent it will depend on the layout of your house - her room was next to ours and we left our door open (hers was shut) so it was easy to hear her.  If your LOs room is on a different level or far away then you'd probably need to keep the monitor.

Do y have a room thermometer which could ease some of your worries about what to dress him in?  There's a bit of guidance here: http://www.babies.co.uk/sleeping/a/getting-the-temperature-right/
