Title: Talk to me about non severe allergic reactions to food or environment
Post by: ZacsMumme on September 19, 2014, 09:49:59 am
We're at a loss with Z at the moment, but he is showing lots of allergy symptoms I 'think' ??? :-\
Along with his other issues he seems to have
- itchy eyes
- post nasal drip or sniffing constantly but no snot.
- trouble swallowing 'his words' (could also be reflux related I guess)
- hives coming and going (the ones like whip marks)
- Red as red cheeks with white in them, like he has been slapped (it's not slapped Cheek)
- he's always been and continues to be a resistant eater with a strong gag reflex and sensitivities on texture and temperature.

I know this doesn't mean allergies, I guess I'm trying to piece things together, particularly if there's more than one thing going on. So what can allergies look like in a preschooler?

poor Z :( My nephew would get the itchy eyes, runny nose, and hives from dogs and horses, as well as asthma flare ups. DDgets hives from peanute butter and occasionall if she eats too much watermelon or cucumper, but the allergist says she is only allergic to the peanut butter. I get the slapped cheeks look (and red hands that hold white marks on the palms if pressed)/high blood pressure from sulfa drugs. I am not sure if that helps any....

Thanks love I forgot I had this thread ::) I was on autopilot for a week or two!
Looks like in hindsight this was all related to his illness and the response was likely due to the antibiotics :-\

good to hear! Allergies suck. DD now appears to react to the fake popcorn flavouring - she had some at school for a 'movie and popcorn' PED day and came home with red chapped ring all around her actual lips....ditto today when DH gave her a popcorn flavoured rice cake. Poor kid.

Oh no! Poor thing :( . Even though it's probably not great for us I love it because tom can eat it (fake butter no dairy :) )

The fake flavoring might also have artificial coloring in it; my kids react badly to artificial colors.

it's could be that too. She seems okay with things like goldfish crackers, though I am going to have to keep and eye on her behaviour after having that stuff. We make most of our food (mostly we hate packaging) but she does get that stuff from time to time and I wonder....

Here are some 'numbers' that are worse than others, if it has one in it she could be reacting to that particular one.
