Title: lots of paintings on the wall in nursing room?
Post by: Lunamoon on October 10, 2014, 23:45:05 pm
My LO sleeps in the same room as my husband and I do.
and the room has lots of paintings on walls.
every wall has various kinds of paintings...maybe 8 paintings.
Do they distract my baby's sleep especially nap?
night time, the room is too dark to see.
She is now 8week old and recently I noticed she looks around during her nap time when she awakes after 25/40 mins.
Please help me. I started EASY and it seemed like working well and now I have nap time issue.
I guess that is one of the reasons.
Thank you.

I don't think paintings on the wall distract a child from sleep

It sounds to me like she is just coming out of the sleepy newborn phase, which is an adjustment for both of you. You might want to look at routine a bit, but she is still very little and so just following EASY as a loose rhythm rather than worrying about times would probably work best. At this age all I tried to do was space feeds out and ensure DS had some activity before sleep.

I wouldn't think the paintings are affecting her, either.

Is she quite an alert baby?

Both of mine were (are) and yes, even at 8 weeks, too much to see before (or during) a nap would stop them nodding off (or resettling if they woke).  Can you try darkening the room at all during the day (we use the Gro blackout blind which you just stick onto your window with suction  pads) or perhaps try naps somewhere else darker/with less to see, and see if that helps?

As PP said though, it could also be a routine issue.  What A time is your LO doing? Perhaps she is a bit UT and an increase could help.

I wouldn't think that it would be causing your LO to be distracted, but, even if it were, there's only so much you can do in the name of sleep. Removing wall décor from walls seems kind of extreme. If they are currently distracting, I'm sure she'll get used to her environment and things like wall décor will only be distracting for a very short amount of time.

Thank you.  I will try to make the room darker. ;)

Thank you for your advise. My girl's A time is kind of short. less than 1 hour(she is 11 week old this week).
Do you think I should follow her sleepy sign or try to extend her A time?

I ordered black out curtains. thank you for your advise.
In A time, my girl looks mirror, mobile(one black&white and one color), talk with me. I read books to her.
Her A time is short. If she naps short along with short A time, her EAS is collapsed.
Do you think she might be a bit UT?

Now she is more interested in looking at window treatment and sun light coming through.
I will put a black out curtain. I hope my girl will nap better.  :)

You could try pushing her A time and see what happens. It's going to jump at some point anyway, right?

(I'm no routine expert though, my 'baby' is nearly 7).

pushing A time is not as easy as I thought.
My little girl has really red eyebrows as soon as she gets sleepy but hardly yawning.
and when she begins to yawn it seems like it is already too late.
Do you think I should keep trying to push A time then she will eventually get used?

How many days has it been? It might be that you need to give it a bit longer. Is she sensitive to OT?

What is OT? I am familiar with abbreviations used at this forum. :0

Overtiredness. My DS is low sleep needs and copes really well with it.

I'd say push on for a week to two weeks total. Often babies get used to a certain routine and take a while to shift.

I too would push on with extending the A time. How much have you been extending by, if you are worried I would try a small amount to begin with like try extending by 5/10 mins at each A time and seeing what happens. If you want to post your day in EAS format for us to have a look at please do.
