Title: Resettling to Sleep
Post by: soulstar75 on October 31, 2014, 00:00:35 am
My ds is 6 months, 4.5 months corrected. He is still waking for night feeds every 2 to 3 hours. After the first 2 feeds, I have a hard time getting him back to sleep in his crib. He starts moving a lot and has bouts of gas in the early morning which wakes him up.  we just dropped the swaddle so that is not an option. Being desperate for sleep, I've resorted to bringing him into bed with me, letting him nurse and he falls asleep. This has been occurring for the past few weeks. Pretty sure this is accidental parenting. How do I break this habit? How do I teach him to self soothe? He does use a pacifier but he sleeps on his back and his side so it falls out or he takes it out. Any advice?

Tracy's motto has always been, "Start as you mean to go on." So if you do not want your LO in your bed long term, you can break this habit fairly easily at this young age by simply choosing not to do it any longer.  Have you tried Shh-Pat yet?  Most LO's are ready for PU/PD at this age but give how unsettled your LO is after that second WU, Shh-Pat might be more appropriate.  Keep in mind also that your LO is still learning how to self-sooth so he is depending on you to show him the way.  Two NW is pretty typical for this age.
If your LO is taking the pacifier out, or doesn't seem to need it, this is a great time to get rid of it cold turkey.  He may not even notice/care.
