Title: How much water at 5mo?
Post by: arabesque on February 19, 2015, 01:19:46 am
Hi everyone, dd is 5.25 months and had started solids. She seems super thirsty and wants extra bfs (even though we are still 3-3.5hrly!) and wants her. Sippy cup of water a lot. She's angry at me if I don't give bf or water. In fact she's pretty angry at me most of the time at the moment. How much water is ok to give? She's only having max2 teaspoons of solids at a time.

Once solids are introduced I would give as much water or milk as she wants to ensure she stays hydrated.
In Tracy's weaning guide she suggests finishing off the solid meal with breast or bottle (in addition to the regular milk feeds), many people don't do this and that's fine so long as LO has enough fluid in the way of water or milk from a sippy but I found with mine he would really need/want milk directly after a solids meal (he'd scream without).  Mine took milk from a bottle and wasn't even a big milk fan but still he wanted a bottle right after solids in the early days. It wasn't for particularly long.
Either way, sippy of water or finish off with BF, both are fine.  Your LO likely knows very well how much fluid she needs.
