Title: How often do you bath your lo?
Post by: babyrose on February 22, 2015, 21:08:30 pm
Please feel free to move.

I've not had a great amount of time with Leo as everything that's happend so I feel I'm starting at the beginning again. I find he settles so very well after a bath before bed but I'm really not sure if every night is ok?  He's now 17wks corrected age.

Thanks nicola

I bath Thomas most nights now - those I miss I still do a quick wash and change upstairs to keep the routine.

He likes his bath as well  :).

No soap or bubbles, just water and a nice moisturiser afterwards.

Thanks Liz,  I'm not so sure he likes it but he sleeps so well! We have him home with us tonight and I decided against bathing him and it took me nearly 45 mins to get him to sleep so baths every night seem like the easier option.

Ds was bathed as a baby every night and still has a bath now almost every night, me as well. Our relaxing bedtime ritual.

I've been reading so many things about how it's bad for their skin but it's such a good way to end the day. Id love having a bath every night if I could!

I bathed mine every night when they were babies - not only part of the routine, but also filled in half an hour of the day! ;)

And that still holds true!  Not to mention, our bedsheets are so much cleaner because we are clean!

I also bathed mine every night when they were babies.  I found it got us through that extra bit of time in the evening when they were likely to be fussy anyway.  :)  And it made for a nice part of the routine.  We'd always moisturize after the bath as well.

I think it is only if you use soap/bubbles etc in the bath, no? I believe plain water is totally fine. Even much older our doc said we should avoid using soaps/bubbles for most of the baths.

Mine hated being in water until he was 5 months, even then it was only 1 or 2 baths per week and I slowly built up. Before 5 months I just washed him with a cloth he hated baths so much, and I tried 1 very quick bath every week or two to see his response.  If he had enjoyed them and slept well I would have bathed him every night.

Only my DD2 did not have a bath every day as an infant (was way OS by a bath at bedtime so we only did it in the morning as needed!). The other two have been bathing nightly since they came home from the hospital - mostly just plain water, no shampoo or soap unless absolutely necessary. I never intended to bath DD3 nightly but she loved it and it was much easier to toss her in while the older two were bathing.

Both mine have had baths every night from around maybe 8wks. Just plain water for first few months and after that a v gentle natural bubble bath suitable for sensitive/eczema prone skin. Their skin has been fine with this.

Like people have said, it's a key part of our BT routine and we do it every night. How dirty they are doesn't really come in to it!

I think if you don't use soap each time .like creations said skin issues won't be a problem. Dd had dry skin so the dr advised us to not use soap/shampoo frequently. We haven't bathed every night since it got cooler and I think one point it got too infrequent that dd started not liking it. But now we do it twice w week and she really enjoys it, so you might find taht as you continue he grows to like it. Ds has always loved it and practically swims the whole time ::)

Thomas is funny - cries getting changed but once I get him in the warm water he looks shocked, stops crying and is like 'oh, hmmmm, OK then, that's nice and warm'. They he cries again when I get him out  ::).

It does seem to relax him for sleep as well.

Thanks everyone, been doing baths every 2nd night as I am so tired at the moment! These guys are keeping me so busy. I think the bubble bath is drying their skin out a bit so will just stick with plain old water for a while.

We were told infacare was OK to use as that's what they used In Hospital which ive not been using so much its mum and me range I've been using.

My kids bath every day but I actually only use soap or shampoo when they are physically dirty looking...which is very rare! My oldest has always had sensitive skin so we stopped using stuff when she was small and just never bothered with the other two.
