Title: 3/4 month still NW after growth spurt
Post by: sszskristy on April 04, 2015, 00:27:10 am
My DD was on a good EASY routine since she was 6 week old. She could sleep from 9 to 7 with a night feeding at 3am. she is BF. However, she went through a growth spurt at the beginning of 3 months, which last about 5 days. During these five days, she slept from 7 to 6 and waked up twice(2am and 5am) during the night. The growth spurt seemed finished after 5 days, but her sleeping never go back to normal. Today she is just 4 months old and she still waked up twice at night, sometimes at 2am and 5am, sometimes 1am and 4am or even early morning wake at 5:30-6am.

Dream feeding: I have been trying to do it but it just doesn't work. She never sucks whether in deep sleep or not.

Daytime feeding: She is bottle feeding every 4 hours and the total would be around 700ml. When she wakes up at night, she does look very hungry. And she will take about 90ml each time. But I also tried to feed her a lot at daytime, she will still wake twice at night.

Naps: two 2hrs nap and one catnap.

I'm a first time mother. Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

Hi there and welcome to BW

It is common for babies who previously slept through the night to start waking for feeds as they get older. They do need more calories, and sometimes, they just don't get enough during the day. Especially since you say the wakings are at random times, hunger would seem to be the culprit. Does she go straight back to sleep after feeding? I definitely would say, feed her.

Have you tried doing the dreamfeed with a bottle? That's what we did. DH handled the DF. He would gently brush it against her lips and she would automatically open up:) I would suggest you keep trying as it is an amazing way to tank them up. Do you cluster feed in the evening?

It would help if you could post your daily routine for us to take a look at. Might be something in there that could be the cause.

hello, thx for ur reply. And yes, when she wakes up during the night she will fall asleep straight away after a feeding. Actually it is kind of dream feed because she doesn't even open her eyes.

And about dream feed before 12am, we do use a bottle. But she either close the mouth very tight or push out the bottle with her tongue.

And about her daytime feeding and routine. She is more like EAESY. She is kind of refuse the bottle now she just finish half bottle and then play for about 2 hrs then finish another half bottle and fall asleep directly. Based on her weight she should take 800+ mls per day but she can only take 600-700 mls.

And I am planing to introduce rice cereal next week which might be helpful. But I guess I should post on another board.

Could you write out the routine in EASY format?
So,
E  - 7
A -
S -

It's fine if it is EAES whatever:p
