Title: Where to start!!
Post by: Mummybronny on July 05, 2015, 08:23:58 am
Hi everyone

New to here, and to baby forum, so hi :-)

My daughter is 6 months old, and I have only read the baby whisperer book in the  last week. The good news is,I love the philosophy and also we have had my daughter on a three hour routine without really planning it.

The not so good thing now is two things- firstly, she is still on a three hour routine, including naps, so I need to get her on a four hour routine.

Secondly, we have always rocked her to sleep (as it worked, and we loved it!) But now she is bigger and heavier and its not working so well, which is why I turned to the baby whisperer (and also after a very traumatic and upsetting 24 hours of trying controlled crying after the advice of others and because I knew no better)

So, my main, or rather first question is this- which do I tackle first - the routine or the self soothing to sleep? Im assuming it will be easier and better to get the routine sorted first and then the sleeping, but would really value some advice. It will be no problem for her feeding to go to four hourly, I think she has been ready for that for a while. Or is it better just to go for everything at once?

At the moment we are stuck in a rut where I am trying to do a bit of everything, and it is just confusing her :-(

Thanks very much in advance xxx

Hello and welcome!

I would say you can do this whichever way you feel is best :). It may be easier on you both to get a good routine going first and then work on independent sleep, but you can do both together as well.  Could you post a current typical day for us?  It may be moving to a four hour routine is the right first step, but actually at 6 months many babies have already outgrown that routine too and are moving from 3-2 naps so I'm happy to help you on that front if you'd like.

Have you seen the FAQs on the homepage, there are lots under the EASY section particularly about getting started :)
