Title: Will my 7mth old be waking for ever for night feeds?
Post by: malibu_nikkus on July 05, 2015, 13:43:31 pm
how many feeds should a 7mth be having.  She is a massive fan of solids, however, I always make sure there is plenty of space between BF and solids.

At the moment her feeds are like this.

5am - EW - feed to sleep
7.00 - wake and feed
12pm - feed
4pm feed
7pm top up for bed

11ish, 2/3am wakes for big feeds

Today, I've added a top up before naps to see if that makes a difference, but I just feel she really should only be waking once now at night, if at all...what do you think?

Once A time approaches 3hrs it is common to need to top up before a nap otherwise as you've seen they can start having 5hrs between feeds if they nap well. So I think you've done the right thing adding in the extra feeds.

It can be normal to have 2-3 NFs still at this age. It could be due to Breast storage capacity http://kellymom.com/pregnancy/bf-prep/milkproduction/

How many solid meals is she having so far? I'm just wondering if she could be filling up on lower calorie solid food in the day and not leaving enough room for milk. If that is possible I would limit the solid food you offer.

Is she an independent sleeper or does she have any props? If she is not an IS then she could be just feeding to get back to sleep.

If you don't already do so I would start offering both sides at each feed and maybe even offering the first breast again to maximise the fatty hindmilk she gets. I assume you let her feed as long as she wants.
