Title: Long MOTN wake ups... Adjust schedule?
Post by: Lilac14 on August 09, 2015, 05:51:45 am
My baby is almost 9 months. We did shush or at 6 months. Last week she night weaned herself as she would resettle at her one wake up with a shush pat. She then STTN for 3 nights! I was very happy. Anyway the past few nights she has suddenly regressed. She has woken at around 3.30 and been awake for over an hour if not 2 hours. I first try shush pat and she gets really really upset so I have tried freeding and that will settle her and I can put her back to bed awake and she will lie there for 15 minutes awake and settled but then will start crying again. I'm not sure if I need to adjust her schedule?

Typical day -
6.00 wake
6.10 Eat
8.00 - 10.00 nap 1
10.30 eat
12.00 lunch
1.00  -3.00  nap 2
3.30 eat
5.00 Dinner
6.30 bedtime.

She goes down for naps and bedtime awake and with very little fuss. I was wondering if I need to add a catnap (we have Never done this) and put her to bed later? I'm scared of catnap as sometimes she goes to sleep for the night at 5.30 if she is doesn't have a kind second nap. She is very ready for bed by 6 and I try to push it to 6.30. Hanks in advance.

I don't know how helpful I will be as I have a LSN baby whereas yours seems to have high sleep needs but I'll give it a go. IMO, it would help to increase her A times. 2 & 3 hours are more appropriate for a younger baby. At 9 months, we were already doing 5 hours. Perhaps pushing the first nap to 3 hours also would be the first step. Basically it feels to me that her first nap is simply too early in the day. It definitely needs to be pushed out. And lastly, in order to keep a good sized gap to bed(not too long as she seems to prefer a short A to bed), you might need to cap one of the naps in order to fit them into the day. In a sense, you would be moving towards either a short am - long pm routine or vice versa. How does that sound?

Hmm, I will try that thanks. She gets really tired and has naturally fallen into a 2-3-4 nap routine but maybe I will make that first wake up longer. That might help. I just need to find things to keep her entertained in activity times too as she gets bored and grizzly and isnonlynhappy if we are out of the house. If I walk around my park one more time I might go crazy!

Haha:) I know what you mean. We're almost at 6 hours A at 14 months and I simply can't find enough stuff to keep her occupied. Need to channel my inner 'pinterest' mom:p Since you've been on this 2-3-4 routine for so long, she will naturally show sleepy signs at these times as that is what her body knows. Go slow when pushing A times and hold for a while to let her body adjust.
